Chicago (DVD, 2003, Widescreen)

With an all woman "jail house tango" number & a sexy group of murderous gals, this hit Broadway musical deserves to be immortalized on DVD.

Chicago is a film adaptation of Bob Fosse's (1975) choreographer-director's Broadway musical. The story is mainly about murderesses (played by Renee Zellweger & Catherine Zeta-Jones). It is set in Chicago during the Roaring 1920s after Roxy (Renee Zellweger) flips out after being treated like a whore by a man she loves & shoots him to death. She is arrested after her husband, who feels betrayed, squeals & rats on her. (Ginger Rogers played the lead in an older B&W non-musical drama film "Roxie Hart").

The jail Roxie (Zellweger) enters is run by none other than Queen Latifah, the women's warden, who bargains with her prisoners for money to get them attorneys who can have them acquitted. Richard Gere plays Billy, the all sought for attorney, as well as a convincing song & dance man. Gere delivers magnificent musical performance.

The underlying theme of the story is about temporary fame due to a fickle public. Zellweger & Zeta-Jones (Velma) play incarcerated jail jazz age competing drama queens. Richard Gere plays Billy, an expensive lawyer who is sought after by Velma, but it's Roxie who lands him. Gere's convincing 1920's showstopping song dance performance is definitely matched by both Zellewger's & Zeta-Jones'. This is a top-notch musical.

Zellweger's singing & Zeta-Jones' dancing are spectacular & bring Broadway musicals back to the prominent place where they belong. Queen Latifah's supporting role truly turns up the heat! Chicago is nearly embarassingly rich with oodles of talent~

Chicago is an academy award winning movie. Not only did it win 5 Academy Awards it also took home the Best Picture award!

Chicago is a movie adaptation of the broadway play. You follow the story of young Roxie Hart as she kills for her dream, and then get's off! Along the way she meets slick lawyers, crooked jail house guards, and famous prisoners!

The acting of Zellweger, Zeta-Jones, Gere, and Latifa is incredible. The music is awesome, the sets are incredible, and the movie keeps the broadway feel with the true production values of a blockbuster movie.

I never EVER thought I would like this movie. but I watched and had to buy it! Such a classic and must own. All the actor did a great job! BUY IT

The Music alone makes this a masterpiece, + You have the voice Talent of Queen Latifa, Cathrine Zeta-Jones, and Rene Zelwegger -- and the Costumes are Hot!!

I loved everything about this movie. Great actors and actresses throughout the movie. VERY THEATRICAL which is what I loved about it!

Great cast, the music is awesome...I saw the movie a couple of years ago, and decided I wanted to own it. It's well acted, Zeta-Jones and company are talented dancers and singers as well as actors. If you like musicals, I'd highly recommend this movie.

I heard about it, and didn't want to see it. Kind of like "The Princess Bride" (doesn't sound like its for me, a T2 fan, but its fantastic)- I like guy movies, and how could I possibly like "Chicago"? There's nothing like being so wrong, and being so pleasantly surprised when I went to see it. Although the music as a straight soundtrack leaves me cool, when combined with this choreography, it is spectacular! The film is smart, ingenious, with a creative plot, cynical perspective and riveting.
(Where I'm coming from: I loved: All That Jazz, Platoon, Star Wars IV, Memento, T2, Princess Bride and Apocalypse Redux.)

I think I saw this movie about a dozen times when I first got it. Eventhough I knew how the movie would end, I still wanted to see it over and over again just for the musical numbers. Very Entertaining!

Great movie with great music! Features a great story told by song. The costumes were perfect for the 20's era. All the talent makes for one classic movie!!

This is a great movie, I love Richard Gere and everyone else in this movie all put it together to make is great. If you haven't seen it I highly recommend anyone to see this.

Catherine Zeta Jones' dynamic performance is the gem of this film as she opens the story with All That Jazz. The musical numbers are so much fun, the characters are delightful. The overall feel of the movie is dark and sinister as we see women overpowering the men and the women like Velma Kelly and Roxie Hart vying for fame and recognition. Excellent acting, wonderful numbers, vibrant costumes and setting! Please do watch this movie!

Ibought this for my girlfriend as a Christmas present. Of all the musicals that she has seen, she loved this one the best.

The best movie event ever

I loved the movie and wanted the music. I bought the cd and it came very quickly and I have been enjoying the movie ever since. The first one I bought from another vendor was inferior quality. The sound did not match the movie. So I am very pleased to have one that does match. Super quick mailing and excellent packing made the whole experience lovely

Not only is this a great movie, I love the music. Even when I can't watch the movie, I like to play it and listen to the music.

This movie is an all around joy to watch. Great actors, great story, great costumes, great imagination, great music, great movie! I have the soundtrack as well and listen to it all the time! Maybe not a movie for the youngens, but certainly a great choice for high school and over.

I really enjoyed this movie. The cast, costumes, and the musical numbers are sweet to the ears. I could follow the story-line pretty well.

MY 14 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER FELL IN LOVE WITH THE ERA AND THE DANCING. SHE AND HER FRIENDS HAVE WATCHED IT MANY TIMES SINCE WE PURCHASED IT. SHE LOVES THE MOVIE AND THE STARS IN IT.

As Broadway musicals go, this was one of the best. Most of the time when a movie is made based upon a Broadway show, the movie never measures up. This is one of the exceptions. The characters, the story, the music and the dancing all excel in this. The actors do a fabulous job on their own singing and dancing. If you love this type of entertainment, you will really love Chicago.

THIS VERSION IS VERY WELL DONE!! QUEEN LATIFAH REALLY PROVED THAT SHE IS A SERIOUS TALENT IN THIS FLICK. KATHERINE-ZETA JONES SHOWS OFF HER BROADWAY ROOTS IN HIGH STYLE, AND EVEN THOUGH RENE ZELLWEGER IS FAR FROM ONE OF MY FAVORITE ACTRESSES SHE REALLY SHINED IN HER SOLO NUMBER "ROXY HEART". ALL IN ALL IT IS REALLY GREAT.

Richard Gere is fabulous- but so is the rest of the cast. LOVED the choreography! If you liked Moulin Rogure, you will like Chicago...

THE ONLY THING THAT WOULD MAKE THE MOVIE BETTER, IS IF THEY HAD CHRISTOPHER WALKEN, THE PART OF THE LAWYER. HE CAN OUT DANCE ANYONE.

There was absolutely nothing to dislike about it. It is an excellent dvd, in excellent condition and quite enjoyable.

I belong to Columbia House DVD club and have wanted this dvd for a long time but it was not available. when you can't find what you want, try ebay or try it first. It was a great price and well worth it.
