Chesky Jazz Vol. 1/Audiophile Test CD by Various Artists (CD, Jan-1993, Chesky)

Fellow audiophiles:
I have used this disc over the past 15 years to evaluate changes I have made in various stereo components; specifically, what effects the electronic changes have wrought in the stereo image as reproduced from my speakers. This disc has played heavily in my evaluations. The first half of the disc has half a dozen excellently recorded jazz pieces including solos(guitars), vocals, and various size ensembles,that have proved invaluable in evaluating improvements in instrument timbre and a three-dimensional sound stage. The final one-half of the disc involves tests for depth, phase, room evaluation, and a series of test tones. The only caveat I have with this disc is that because it includes a se ries of test tones, you must be careful you don't play the test tones at a loud volume or you can ruin your speakers. In a nutshell, it is a one-disc excellent tool for system analysis. I usually only use this disc. An added plus is that the jazz pieces are beautiful in and of themselves. I recommend it highly and have not found its equal in other test discs( I have 6 other ones)
