A Great Railroad's Greatest Time and Place
I've always felt that the Chesapeake and Ohio Railroad was one of the truly great railroads in history. This railroad ran a fleet of steam locomotives that produced the most power (7500 HP) of any machine on land (the 2-6-6-6 Allegheny) and occupied the pinnacle of the steam power era. This book gives the reader a thorough and exciting history of this great railroad in a time and place that is its greatest claim to fame. The steep grades of the Appalachian mountains in West Virginia were conquered by this railroad.
This book is of particular interest, not only to historians and rail fans, but to modelers. In addition to the high quality photographs, there are numerous maps of facilities such as engine yards and terminals including roundhouses and turntables that are long gone.
