MY TOP 10 ALL TIME FAV CDS

ow, you can't get much better than this disc. With the stand-out tracks not limited to "So What'cha Want" and "Gratitude", this disc has an over-all feel to it that makes it a disc you listen to from start to finish. A very good moment in the Beastie Boy timeline.
I think back fondly on the first time I caught the Beasties live. It was at a Lallapalooza in Columbus Ohio. I believe it was in 1993. The Smashing Pumpkins were also on the bill that night. I was a very green fan of the Beasties then. In my younger days I was pretty much only into classic rock, and looked down on rapping. I thought I was cool because I was going to see the Pumpkins. As I've grown in my musical taste, I have developed a real respect for the Beasties.
I next saw them at the Tibet Freedom Festival at RFK Stadium in Washington DC. That was right before the Hello Nasty CD came out, and the only music that was released from it was the "Intergalactic" single that was being played on the radio. I was hearing songs like "Super Disco Breakin'", and "Body Movin'" for the first time live. I was blown away! It was a great festival overall...though I was bummed Beck didn't get to play because on the first day of the two day festival, a young lady was struck by lightning in the stadium, and they stopped the show. But that's a whole other story.
Overall, go BUY the Beastie Boys release Check You Head.
Thanks, and Good Luck!

This is not Licensed to Ill. So, if that's all you like about the Beatie Boys, then you might not dig this. But it is a good album showing that they wanted to spread their wings. Tracks include:

1. Jimmy James
2. Funky Boss
3. Pass The Mic
4. Gratitude
5. Lighten Up
6. Finger Lickin' Good
7. So What'cha Want
8. Biz Vs. The Nuge, The
9. Time For Livin'
10. Something's Got To Give
11. Blue Nun, The
12. Stand Together
13. P.O.W.
14. Maestro, The
15. Groove Holmes
16. Live At P.J.'s
17. Mark On The Bus
18. Professor Booty
19. In 3's
20. Namaste

  Great Old school CD

Almost every track on here brings back great memories! The Beastie Boys where way ahead of their time. Almost every one of the songs on this CD would be perfect for a house party.

  CLASSIC!!!!
Review created: 09/02/08

The first three Beastie Boys CDs were solid masterpieces. I can't decide which of the three is the best--LICENSED TO ILL, PAUL'S BOUTIQUE or, this, CHECK YOUR HEAD. Does it really matter? They're all marvels of funk, rock, and hiphop. What set this CD apart were the jazzy sections, played by the boys themselves (with some critical help on keyboards). For more than a decade, this CD has earned a permanent spot on my tray, and has quite easily held its place on my "What ten albums would I want if I were stuck on an island (preferrably Manhattan island)?" list.

My personal favorites are "So What'chu Want?", "Pass the Mic" and "Something's Got to Give". One of the shining moments to me, as for several other reviewers, is hearing Dylan's voice singing "I'm going back to New York City, I do believe I've had enough" on "Finger-Licking Good". Which brings me to one other observation: The Beastie Boys are to New York as The Beach Boys were to California. CHECK YOUR HEAD, like all other Beastie CDs, is a tribute to their hometown, and they projected an image of it that is uniquely theirs.

Classic Beasties! "So what 'cha what cha want"?

I bought this cd for the few tracks I've come to enjoy, and was kinda disappointed that the rest of the album wasn't as good as the tracks that I was familiar with. If you are a big beastie boys fan, I'm sure you feel that this cd is GREAT. I myself found it just OK.
