Chasing Harry Winston by Lauren Weisberger (2008, Hardcover)

I just read this book and cannot figure out who exactly was Chasing Harry Winston, since nobody really wanted a husband...

Anyway, this is definitely not the best out of The Devil Wears Prada's genius writer, Lauren Weisberger. I'm not even convinced she wrote this.

There are three main characters: Adriana, a Brazilian beauty with narcissistic tendencies and a problem with not keeping her legs shut; Leigh, an uptight editor; Emmy, a newly single cook. You never really get to know any of them really well and the only character you honestly like is Otis the African Grey Parrot.

Adriana is selfish and annoying. Leigh is uptight and annoying. Emmy is neurotic and annoying.

So gee, we get to wander into their lives as they search for ... what? Not Harry Winston. Adriana just goes in a circle, Leigh decides that she's too good for her seemingly perfect fiance, and Emmy tries out the slut lifestyle.

Not very interesting, not very good writing, and not something you should rush out and buy like I did.

little bit unbelievable, but it was a good read. It was fun, it was cute, it kept me interested until the very end. It actually kind of left me wanting more.

This book does not have the glam factor of "The Devil Wears Prada," but does focus on three women looking to find a decent man and a decent bauble. I thought that some of the plot was contrived, but overall this is a fun, fast read that would be great for a vacation or day at the beach. Very light character development as well, which was rather disappointing.

If you are just looking for a semi-mindless piece of entertainment, check this book out. The most endearing character is the one woman's pet parrot who continually screams "fat girl," at everyone who walks in the door. It seems that the parrot has a self-image/gender issue and is referring to himself...

Moments of laughter are present here, just not as plentifully as I would have liked.

Very disappointing for a Lauren Weisberger book. I had read her two other books and they clipped along at a great pace. This one drug on and on with waaaaay too much discription of needless things. I found myself skimming paragraph after paragraph of worthless discriptions. The basic story was a great concept...and it ended very well...could even see a sequel to it. But, it was almost like someone else was actually writing the book...didn't seem her style of writing at all, compared with "Devil" and "Everyone Worth Knowing" (her 2nd book). Very disappointing. Hope she comes out with a 4th book to redeem herself.

I have been looking for this book for a long time. I am glad that I got the book in very good condition and I cannot wait to finish reading it.
