This is the man and the show that started it all. The Chappelle Show Season 1 took America by storm - partly because no expected the edginess, partly because it came out of nowhere, and mostly because Dave Chappelle is simply hilarious. No topic is untouchable. No celebrity is off-limits. No racial or cultural taboo cant be made fun of.

This DVD set is an absolute classic, even moreso now that there is no longer a Chappelle show.

I like Season 1 even better than Season 2, as they have some of the all-time best skits like Trading Spouses, Wu-Tang Financial, Pop Copy, Blind Klansman and Player Hater's ball.

The commentary is really fascinating as they talk a lot about the creative process and you realize why this show didn't make it. They were running on fumes most of the time as Chapelle and his one writer cranked out sketches (why they didn't hire more writers is a mystery). There is even a skit where Chapelle quits the show with the actual producers playing themselves.

Although it's sad that there is no longer a Chapelle show, the upside is they didn't go long enough to destroy it. They have a great body of work in only 2 seasons. Odenkirk and Cross did this on Mr. Show and limited themselves to a certain number of seasons. You will also probably like Mr. Show if you liked Chapelle and need a fix.

For those of you old enough you can remember the attempt NBC made in the late 70's to coin in on Richard Pryor's success by giving him his own weekly television show. It only lasted a few episodes, and such greats on the cast were Pryor, Robin Williams and Paul Mooney. The comedy was a little too edgy...but it seems that Dave Chappelle picked up right where he left off - and today's society seems to be ready to listen.

Chappelle has one of the most original comedic minds of today. Touching on sexuality, racism and socioeconomic ideas, Chappelle gives a fascinating view on life that is sure to make you chuckle. Paul Mooney, noted earlier, plays in a skit called "Ask a Black Guy", in which anyone can ask a black person questions they have have felt uncomfortable about...truly hilarious.

It seems that Chappelle's quick rise to the top has had an effect on him. His third season was well publicized in 2005 and then abruptly cancelled. It is set to show in 2006 - but we will see.

Most Chappelle fans already own this. If you are just discovering him, pick up this and also the movie "Half Baked".

Warning - if you are sensitive to the use of the "n word", this may not be for you. However, if you are openminded to the racial tensions in the world, you'll get a kick out of this.

If there was a higher rating I could give Chappelle, I would. Hands down the funniest sketch comedy ever! If you dont know Chappelle, then you absolutely must get it! I cant even begin to explain how hilariously Dave touches on a vast range of topics! A MUST BUY!!! This was actually a gift, glad I didnt waste the money on it. Was half way funny the first time I watched it but not awesome. Cant watch this more than once then its just stupid. Guess it just wasnt my thing.

This is Chappelle at his best. Uncensored and hilarious. A must see. These skits are the funniest you will ever see anywhere. Believe it.

This could be the best sketch comedy show ever. Taking on subeject matter like none ever before, Chappelle and his crew act out incredibly funny and witty sketches. The uncensored version is definitely funnier than the series on Comedy Central and the bonus material is great.

Of the few seasons that "Chappelle's Show" aired. Season #1 was the best.

Episode 8 on the DVD about "Racist Hollywood Animals" is hilarious, especially the part about Mr Ed and the part about Lassie.

If you remember those old TV shows, you will ROTFL.

Chappelle is hilarious and I got the DVD because I think this guy is a riot. Especially season 1. Season 1 had a lot of things me and my roommate laughed about and qouted.

"You can't deny me Billy, it's too real!". This is a must have collection for anyone who enjoys the off-beat, quick paced comedy of Dave Chapelle. He's such a comic genius that he appeals to all races & all ages in this collection of his ground breaking first season...
So cool to see it with no beeps to really get the full effect of Chapelle's comedy.

Dave Chappelle is an amazing comedian and the uncut unedited dvd of season one is hilarious. The dvd also features extra audio of Dave and Neal Brennan the co-creator talking about certain episodes. It also has an expanded "Ask a Black Man w/ Paul Mooney" sketch.

The originality and sometimes skit contents are not like any comedy I have ever seen. Classic in every way, and a must have for my DVD collection.

hilariously funny and a very good price. Dave Chappelle has the talent of a Richard Pryor type comedian or even an Eddie Murphy but more in touch with urban scenarios.

Ok so it has DARK HUMOR, Sex explicit and drug related issues, Bad language. Racial controversy, political attacks. Its still THE BEST!

You have to have a broad criteria to watch it.

Other than that, its very funny. If your criteria accepts all of the above issues, go ahead and try it. If it serves as a reference, I always buy my favorite tv seasons and then ebay them in the next couple of weeks.
This one is a keeper.

The first season is way more funny than the second one, but both of them are great. You can learn jokes to tell at parties too (it also depends on what types of parties you go to).I once spent 2 hours talking about the 1st season with a customer. Its very addictitive.

Definetely not a present for a kid or teenager. Dont blame me if you let them watch it!

Season 1 of Chappelle Show is funny as hell! The best part is the special features that have "Ask a Black Guy" with Paul Mooney who is just as funny as Dave Chappelle.

It's great having the DVD that contains the 1st episode of Chappelle's Show that started it out. This will make you laugh and brings sketch shows to the top. Dave Chappelle is without a doubt one of the best comedians of this century.
