Chaplin (DVD, 2008, 15th Anniversary - Limited Edition - Widescreen Version)

I became a fan of Robert Downey Jr. shortly after seeing him in this part as Chaplain when this movie was first released. He gives a brilliant performance and the movie helps to define the Real Chaplain in a way that we can appreciate his brilliance today too. I just bought a copy of the new Pixar movie Wall-e and the director talks about how he watched Chaplain movies to learn how to create a non-verbal language that can form a character that touches audiences. This movie shows old hollywood and young America as it was developing the movie art form and trying to get through the depression and into the war with Germany and Hitler. Robert Downey Jr does an excellent job, the story is true and well written, and the look of the movie is pleasing. The bonus features include the director talking about how, where, when, and why he made the film which is also a great piece of education and entertainment. The DVD was very inexpensive and top quality--delivered swiftly after ordering.
