  McCartney's latest pop release.

This offering from Sir Paul isn't as far away from his usual fare as some reviewers like ro pontificate about. This particular release appears to be a bit odd and not enjoyable on first listening. However, as some of my other favorite CDs, this one grew on me after a few "auralisms". I can truly say this is one of my favorites from his catalog of the last twenty years. Very pleasant musically and lyrically (another plus).

Best from McCartney in decades. Great bonus material.

Pros:
Best songwriting and crafting from McCartney in decades. Nice bonus material.

Cons:
Wish ALL the bonus material was in DTS, not just one song.

McCartney's latest effort is his best in a very long time. THe version I'll be reviewing has a bonus DVD, so I'll focus on the bonus material first. The bonus DVD contains a documentary, studio performance video for "Fine Line", an animated film of line art (same artwork that's in the liner notes of the cd) set to instrumental versions of "Vanity Fair", "At the Mercy", and "Anyway", and a video for "How Kind are You". Here's my review: Documentary: "Between Chaos and Creation" The DVD has a really good documentary about the writing and recording of the album with lots of in-studio stuff and...

  A great album beautifully packaged.

Pros:
A compelling album with DVD extras ranging from very informative...

Cons:
...to plain old bland

Something Paul McCartney hasn't had since John Lennon told him 'Maxwells' Silver Hammer' was crap, is someone brave enough and trusting enough in their own craft to tell him he can be extremely naff*, given enough freedom, (An intentional pun - see 'Driving Rain'). Nigel Godrich, having produced Radiohead into Rock-God sainthood, may be the only person on earth who would try. so thank God George Martin recommended him, otherwise bittersweet melodies like 'How Kind Of You' and 'Follow Me' could so easily have been the wet affairs that 'I Do (Driving Rain) and 'My Love' (Red Rose Speedway 1973).
