This DVD is a re-release of two 30-minute programs originally released on VHS in the 1980s. Bubbe (pronounced "BUBB-ee", which means "grandma" in Yiddish) is a loving old grey-haired lady who runs a boarding house with an eclectic group of characters who live there. Of course, Bubbe is Jewish and celebrates Hanukkah and Passover. When her grandson and friends come to join in, they are taken back into history, where they epereince the events as if they were living back then. (Bossy Anton become Pharoah in the Passover episode, and Emperor Antiochus in the Hanukkah story). The puppets for this show are great, and the story lines are educational without being preachy. Best of all, both episodes include some great songs -- including a new one for Hanukkah: "We light up the candles ever-y night -- it's a beautiful sight!" I recomend this DVD set both for Jewish families, and for multi-cultural educators who want to include Jewsih holidays in the curriculum.
