The Changeling (DVD, 2000)

A wonderful classic horror movie I have long wanted to get on DVD. Thrilling B-rated horror with a cast to die for! Gotta love the classics even if they're from the 80's!

The Changeling is a truly romantic gothic horror with heartbreak and intrigue from start to finish. Like real life so many things affect our everyday life and true to form the situations played out in the Changeling set in motion a series of questionable happenings. The struggle of a father and writer that has just lost his wife and only child is set to rebuild his life when he enters a world of long term deceit after moving into an old Victorian house near the university. Excellent suspense and build up without crude language and thoughtless butchering. The Changeling is a movie that will make you think and look deeper at the darker side of family, money, and power. And it is a great date flick to keep that someone special while still being able to sneak in a few kisses!

I like it because it's well written, well produced and well acted. It's suspenseful and believeable. It's a classic psychological thriller that doesn't rely on blood or gore to be frightening. I bought it because it's based on actual events that took place in Denver in the mid-1950's.

The Changeling is a true ghost story...not one of those ridiculous teen hatchet movies, or the gory sick movies that only appeal to those of questionable intelligence. One of the scariest movies I've ever seen, and still gives me the chills after having seen it many times. It's a double plus because while the movie amply satifies the chill factor, it's also a puzzling mystery. A must see for anyone who loves a good haunting movie.

I like how this DVD had a very good story behind it, as well as being a little scary. I disliked how there were no known actors and/or actresses in it except for the main character. I decided to buy this DVD because a co-worker told me that it was a good DVD.

George C. Scott plays a grieving man who's still dealing with the loss of his wife and daughter. Shortly after finding reclusion by renting a huge old mansion, he's contacted by the spirit of a murdered child who's trapped in the mansion. Scott eventually begins to identify with the spirit of the murdered child, (largely due to the death of his own young daughter) and driven by clues given to him by the child-ghost, begins an investigation that will put him at serious odds with a very old and powerful U.S. Congressman. The plot contains many interesting twists and is filled with very suspenseful super-natural scenes.

Well written, directed, and acted. George C. Scott again demonstrates why he was one of the last century's best actors. Just watch it and see!

Based on a true story that took place in Colorado during the late 1960’s, this has to be the greatest psychological horror/thriller of it’s time. George C Scott gives an Oscar winning performance as John, a man who after the tragic deaths of his wife and young daughter, rents an old mansion from the historical society just outside Seattle, Washington. A 6-year-old boy was murdered in the attic and his spirit calls out to the very open and vulnerable John for help in solving his murder and bringing the full truth to light. The film scares the mind and does an excellent job while not assulting the viewer's eyes or ears. If you love horror I highly recommend this film, however, if you scare easily, don't watch it alone.

A rare look for G.C.Scott, Its was a wonderful haunting with an excellent story.Its a must see!Scott being overwhelmed by grief, then haunted, He was a master of emotions. No other actor could have played it as well.It is number one of my top ten.

This movie is a classic. Excellent acting by George C. Scott. The story moves right along, no boring spots in this one!! When our original was destroyed by fire, my husband was convinced we would not be able to find another.

A really good suspense movie made without gore and slashing the victims. You can watch with anyone and not be embarrassed by the language, because it's made without the need for it.

the changeling is one of the most underated horror movies available. it's a classic, creepy ghost story, in the vein of the haunting (original), and more recently the others.

I liked this movie very much when I originally saw it on HBO years ago. This time around it was better than ever.............. It is clearly a much better copy than I had & I am glad I ordered it. I have told everyone about this movie & will share it with my friends & family.

I have always liked this movie since I first saw it about 20 years ago. It's NOT a bloody, gut-wrenching movie without a plot. It has a story.It culminates into a final suspenseful crecendo. Excellent movie.

This is a great scary movie, it's not graphic and keeps you on the edge of your seat. They just don't make them this good anymore, it's awesome!

What I liked about this movie was great suspense and a good story line. It is a little older so that is why I gave it a good rating. It is a movie that I will watch from time to time and recommend to people that I know.

A very clever ghost story. Aged very well: great acting, superb soundtrack and incredibly well executed! Unlike most horror movies, this extremely effective piece of work, plays on subtleties instead of shock and gore.

Very creepy and atmospheric haunted house movie. George C. Scott does a great job as usual in the film. It's a good scary ghost movie without all the blood and guts. More for people who appreciate the old-fashioned style more.

"The Changeling" is one of the great horror classics of all time. Anyone looking for gratuitous blood and guts, or screaming teenagers running through the woods, can look elsewhere. "The Changeling" is of a much higher caliber. Its the creepiest haunted house movie you will probably ever see. I guarantee that you will never look at an antique wheelchair the same way again!!

This is by far one of the best Horror pictures I have seen. And I seen just about all of them. I have watched it many times over the years and eve bought a copy for my daughter. It was in eccellent condition and plays great! I recomend it for anyone who wants a good scare without all the blood and gore.

Great movie.. classic suspense. Shows that you don't need a bunch of gore and blood to create a good scare. Very good story line.
