Publisher's Note
Mafia princess Shirley Meeker wants her husband back. So does her father, kingpin Julius Ventura, and a few other shady characters. Spenser and Hawk head to Vegas to find Anthony Meeker--and confirm their suspicion that all these people aren't just missing Anthony's smile. And when bodies start turning up, Spenser has to make sense of some very disorganized crime.

Industry Reviews
"Parker hasn't lost his ear for hard-boiled dialogue, and Vegas hasn't lost its glitz."
Playboy - Digby Diehl

"The good news is that the dialogue is as brisk and clever as always."
Los Angeles Times Book Review - Dick Lochte (06/23/1996)

"...in 'Chance', as always, Mr. Parker makes you laugh at the subtle variations he works on his politically incorrect themes. And as always, he occasionally turns his gags into touching sentiment..."
New York Times - Christopher Lehmann-Haupt (08/15/1996)

"Tremendously stylish, shimmering with readability."
Literary Review - Philip Oakes (11/19/1996)

"...deeply satisfying page by page."
Stasio

"'Chance' is vintage Spenser."
