Outstanding installment in the Series!

I love this series. I picked it up as a curiosity, but fell in love with the premise. A woods guide is actually a war wizard hidden away from his tyrannical father, his long-time fried is actually his grandfather and First Wizard - intrigue, sorcery, romance, adventure - hard to know how to categorize this series.
In this installment, Richard awakens mortally injured, only to find that no one remembers his wife, Khalan. This book chronicles his desperate attempts to convince everyone that he has not gone insane, and has not dreamed her while pon death's doorstep. The characters of Nicci and Cara are central in this book, although I did not like Cara directing Nicci to become romantically involved with Richard - I found that to be out of character for a Mord-Sith, even a reformed one.
Overall, the pace, writing and dramatic appeal of this book kept me riveted. I have consistently found all the characters to be engaging, charismatic and realistic. Upon finishing this book, I was anxiously waiting to find out what happened in the next book, "Phantom." And I hope the series continues - it's an excellent read!
