Synopsis Kevin Shea, a 28-year-old graduate student in San Francisco, is present at a lynching, where in an attempt to help the victim, he hands the man a knife to cut the noose. After the appalling event, a photograph surfaces that shows Shea, the knife, and the victim--only in the photo it looks like Shea is stabbing the victim. Shea tries to disappear and thus becomes the focus of a manhunt, and of San Francisco politicians' efforts to play the race and murder cards to their advantage.
