I loved this book. It was a quick and easy read. Mr. King never seems to let us down, always supplying us with the perfect amount of GORE!! This book was funny, quick-witted, TRAGIC. It was a great read, especially after a stressful day!! PULSING Cell Phones, Humans turning to Zombies, and the Good Guys killing the bad guys....that's what it's all about.
Anther great work from the Master . . . . and the narration is one of the best I've heard. This is one of those audio books that you find yourself sitting in the driveway once you get home saying "just one more chapter and I'll go in . . . "
The reason I bought this book? I love Stephen King, have gotten hooked on audio books and really do not enjoy trying to find a new station every 50 miles when I am traveling on business.
Big Stephen King fan here...enjoyed the majority of the book but the ending left a lot of things to ponder on. at times you might think your reading another Stand novel...who knows...maybe we are on some other level of the tower....
Twelve discs which my husband and I listened to on an extened road trip, great story; kept us riveted to the point where we couldn't wait to listen after each break from driving. Reader had a nice voice with good voice skills..
I bought this Cd a couple of weeks ago. I drive for about an hour to work and in the evening about the same. The CD was great and it passed the time away by listening to it. Thanks
This is my first try at an audio book, and so far so good. I imagine Stephen King reading the morning newspaper, and he probably came upon the news clip theory that perhaps cell phones can cause brain tumors and expanded upon that in his own unique/morbid way. Perhaps "tumor" is a replacement word for "work" or "difficult client"... I'm not sure :) LOL (kidding), I have actually just started listening to it.
I bought this cd set as a gift for my husband. He was happy to be able to add this set to his King collection of work. He has been a huge fan of Mr. King's work for many years, long before it was popular! In the very early days they used snail mail to write to each other. My husband has read (& listened) to everything both Kings have wrote. He enjoys revisiting these books on cd, over and over, when he travels. My husband loved "Cell"! Yet he did said, "This one is a little slow going in the beging. Stick with it though, because it is well worth your time!" Enjoy folks!! I know my husband did and will again.
Cell is a great title - it is accurate for the story in more than the obvious reason. Intense as War of the Worlds, full of heart and characters like you'd expect from King... what an amazing idea, incredibly brought to life... WHAT A GREAT MOVIE THIS WILL MAKE! WOW-- all the edge of your seat you can want! With that classic, "think about it" from the Master.
I have to say the Steven does it again in a mind blowing thiller of how the world could come to an end over good and evil. A good listen (read) that moves nicely and never really lets you down. Highly recommended and liked.
I think this is one of the better books by Stephen King. It gives you a lot to think about when the world you know, the people you love, suddenly and drastically change. How would YOU react to a world where you are not the predominant life form?
I had to at least here what the latest Stephen King story was about. I listened to this on my daily 1/2 hour ride to work. I actually wanted the ride to last longer then the 1/2 hour so I could see what happened next. In the end I felt it was a great story, read professionally and with feeling. The only thing I felt was cheezy was the typical Steven King characters and some of their sayings and names of certain things as the story goes along, one of them "Mr. Speedy" as a nickname for a machine gun and many others. Overall this was very enjoyable and I'm glad I did the audio book version instead of actually reading the book.
A great read. (Listen in my case.) King never lets one down. Great story. Great ending. Anther book that deals with the fall of mankind. This one is definitely one of the better ones.
I'm visually impaired so I purchased this book on tape. I'm a fan of Stephen King. I put off the purchase for quite a while because I was not entrigued by the synopsis of the book, however I found it to much very engrossing. I believe it combined just the right amount of terror and suspense. I listened to it over 2 days and was never bored. It does make one think about where technology may be leading us. I enjoyed it completely.
I purchased Cell and was immediately hooked! True to classic Stephen King writing, this novel starts off with a bang and doesn't slow down. I usually don't like the idea of being read to, but after starting a new job where I was required to commute an hour in each direction, at an extremely early hour in the morning, I decided I needed to find a way to stay awake when the radio just wasn't cutting it. I was immediately drawn into the story, not just by the content, but also by the reader's voice. I couldn't wait to get in the car each morning to hear more of the story! The reader is able to captivate his audience with the different accents and influctions of his voice, which adds great enjoyment to the spellbinding tale. Having been recently written, and citing world events that actually occured not long ago, this intriguing tale of horror makes us wonder if the cellular phone lines could actually be taken over by a terrorist, scientific, or even alien force. At the end, I found myself wanting to know even more of the stories, having been drawn into the personal lives of each of the characters. I would highly recommend this novel to any of King's fans. You won't be disappointed!
This is a Steven King book through and through very graphic and makes you feel you are there. Makes you think about what could happen and why I have always had an attitude when it comes to cells. In the end you want more and I'm sure that he will bring on another follow-up to this one so all your questions will be answered.
This was a book that I didn't want to put down. Grabbed ahold of my from the first page & didn't let go even at the end. Stephen King does it once again. Makes you wonder of we really should be using these cell phones or not. I haven't looked at mine the same since. Worth the read!
I just finished listening to the "Cell" audiobook, and I was very impressed. It had a "Dawn of the Dead" and "28 Days Later" theme that tied into an everyday luxury we all have...a cell phone. A typical Stephen King story that sets you into the mood of the story and then keeps you wanting more. The ending leaves you wondering how the story will go on in a typical Stephen King fashion. I am a big fan of Stephen King and I really enjoy all his works. Stephen King does not disappoint with this story. I've just started using audiobooks, and the Stephen Kins books on audio adds a new dimension to the stories. I rate this one high!
It took me a week to not feel jumpy about my cell phone! I usually don't like to listen to Stephen King books, because they tend to drag a little. This one was so easy to listen to.
Awesome...a GREAT "what if"...and it make you think about the modern world of work and technology and how it relates to our lives...a great read. I guess if you really put yourself into that situation, you think about what it is that you would do....if you were there? King is killer at really describing life and a real persons reactions to bizzar situations...this is one of his best.
We love Stephen King, and we really liked Cell. We buy lots of books on cd's and this was a excellent choice. I would highly recommend this book if you are a fan of Stephen King. You will LOVE it.
The Cell was a very good King book. We are still listening to it at work. It reminded me alot of "28 Days Later" (the movie) but with a different twist. As far as King's wierdness that we all enjoy and look foreward to, it fell a small bit short. Maybe it wasn't bizarre enough for me. Don't get me wrong, I liked it alot and so do my friends, it's just that maybe there wasn't enough, well, "whoa"'s in it. Common Stephen, are you getting too old to shock us? I may be under-rating it a bit and maybe it deserves a 4 1/2. Oh by the way, I buy King because he's...........King.
