NARRATED BY GEORGE GUIDALL Unabridged
In this story, some petty thieves have put a damper on the holiday spirit in Pickax. Small items seem to be disappearing all over town and the residents are up in arms. The small thefts escalate into $2,000 stolen from the Indian Village Bridge Club for charity. The thefts began when Willard Carmichael and his much younger wife moved to Pickax from Down Below. Then Willard is mugged and murdered on a trip back Down Below and his wife's cousin Carter Lee seems way to eager to pick up were Willard left off in the restoring of the mansions on Gingerbread Alley. A local man is accused of the crimes, but Qwill has some serious questions...especially when Carter begins to romance and then quickly marries wealthy widow Lynette Duncan and then she is mysteriously poisoned on their honeymoon in New Orleans. Carter is not the grieving widower he should be. Koko is in an uproar about something, so it's up to Qwill and the cats to put things to rights before the Duncan fortune and Pickax are destroyed.
