This game is easily one of the top 10 best Nintendo NES games ever made. It was like no other game out at the time. Great graphics, very cool music and bosses that were real classic monsters like Dracula, Frankenstein, Medusa, etc. This is a must own game for anyone that owns an NES system.

  Nintendo NES Casltevania
Review created: 08/14/09
by:

A classic game from the ever so popular Nintendo Entertainment System. Bring back those fond memories of the wonder years when you sat in front of that 13" black and white t.v., (color if you were lucky), and played video games until the break of dawn. Leaping over evil gobblins and killing vampire bats swinging your chain mace and throwing special potions. If you have a working classic Nintendo System, this game will bring back the fun of your youth!

  Welcome to Castlevania.
Review created: 08/01/09

You are Simon on a quest to destroy Count Dracula. That's it, plain and simple.
With the exception of Contra, Castlevania is one of the most beloved NES games ever. A classic Nintendo Entertainment System, 2D, side scrolling, platform. With simple controls, cool power ups, and a wonderful soundtrack.
This is one retro game that we won't soon forget! They just don't make them like this anymore.

Who Didn't love the original Castlevania Nes game
Review created: 07/12/09

I was a child of the 80's and like many in my generations I had a Nintendo game system. One of my all time favorite games to play was Castlevania. This game may not intrigue a younger generation who is not reminiscing their childhood due to the now less than amazing 8 bit graphics. However, in what other game do you get to kill vampire bats and other beasties with a whip while in animal skins?

  Great classic game
Review created: 07/06/09

This is a great game - I'm not really a video game connoisseur so I'll spare you the jargon. It's fun to play, it's a challenge, you get to fight a lot of different enemies using many weapons and power-ups. The music is decent, the sound effects are cool, the control is good and there's not much question about what is going on or what comes next. The bosses are hard, but that's why it's fun. It isn't difficult to the point of frustration, but there's a learning curve involved. This is one of my top 5 games for the NES and it's very much worth playing. I've played it for years and I'm not sick of it yet.

  Castlevania for the NES
Review created: 03/04/09
by:

Castlevania for the NES developed and published by Konami (1987)

It's the first game on the series, and one of the most memorable. It has excellent 8 bit tunes and it's pretty difficult.

In this game you'll take the roll of Simon Belmont and with his Vampire killer whip you'll be taking down Dracula's minions through his castle. It's composed of six levels and at the end of each level you'll be fighting it's respective boss.

Overall it's a pretty cool game and it's recommended for everyone who has a working NES and doesn't have it on his collection.

Just buy it - chances are this is an inspiration for one of your favorite games. The gameplay, story, and audio/visual elements are classic - one of the best title for the NES.

  The Cursed Castle
Review created: 10/24/08

What can I say about this classic that hasn't already been said? A prime example of classical platforming games, Castlevania is the story of Simon Belmont and his quest to defeat Dracula. Wielding the Belmont family's ancestral whip, Simon fights his way through Dracula's castle to put an end to the dark lord.

In addition to the Vampire Killer whip, Simon can equip several sub-weapons: the Knife (shoots straight forward), the Axe (is thrown in a wide arc), the Holy Water (creates a small fire where it lands), the Cross (shoots forward a bit before returning to the thrower), and the Stop Watch (freezes the screen for several seconds. The whip upgrades twice, giving the weapon a little more range and power.

This game is as classic as the original Super Mario Brothers. Pick it up (or download on the Wii's virtual console, if you prefer) if you like classic, blisteringly hard games.

  Castlevania For Nintendo NES
Review created: 04/10/07(updated 06/18/09)

Castlevania is one of my favorite Nintendo Entertainment System games. The story is very intriguing and you're hooked from the start. You play the part of Simon Belmont descended from a long line of vampire hunters and you're the next in your lineage to challenge none other than Count Dracula himself! This is a side-scroller action game where you traverse many levels through The Count's castle to ultimately face-off against the Lord of Darkness. It's is by no means an easy adventure, you'll face off against zombies, mer-men, medusa heads, armored knights...need I say more? As if that wasn't enough, at the end of each stage awaits a boss whom will attempt to stop your progression to the next level. Armed with your whip and classic sub weapons such as the holy water, daggers and the cross you must put and end to Dracula's reign over Transylvania. Overall I give this game an "EXCELLENT" rating for solid game play and an amazing soundtrack.

  A Classic Game
Review created: 12/18/06

This is it, the ORIGINAL CASTLEVANIA game. This game resulted in many many more games in the series and one of the best and longest running video game series there is. Great game which should be in any Castlevania fan or NES fans collections. A all time classic.

  Review for Castlevania
Review created: 10/05/06
by:

For NES fans, this game is one of the classics. The music's good, the bosses at level ends are interesting and the game progresses fast enough to keep you playing. I enjoyed the game years ago when it was first released and it's as much fun to play today. The only drawback to the game is the lack of a save game feature, so you have play it all the way through at once, or pause overnight to continue later. In all definitely a winning game for the Nintendo.

the original is always the best!
Review created: 09/25/06

Here is where it all started. You, Simon Belmont, must journey into the heart of Castlevania to destroy Dracula once and for all. Well, the original is still the best! STORY: 5/5. Great story! Go in. Kill all who oppose you. Very simple and easy to understand. GRAPHICS: 5/5. Incredible! Remember folks, this was the NES. When this came out, these graphics were top-notch. MUSIC: 5/5. The music is one area where this game really shines. It starts out good at the beginning with the classic "Vampire Killer" track. Each level has its own music and it is all good. HERO: 5/5. Here we had a guy with a relatively normal name: Simon. I mean come on, this is a hero we could RELATE to. PLAY CONTROL: 5/5. And the controls in this game are tight. They are straight to the point. Left goes left. Right goes right. B does a weapon. B+Up does a special weapon. A jumps. Up and Down go up and down stairs. What's not to love about simple controls that are economical and make sense? STYLE: 5/5. The mood and style of this game are killer. Who wouldn't want to crawl around a creepy castle and whack a few bats with a whip? That's just good wholesome fun right there. The mood of this game is just right. It is about as scary as games like that got back then. GAMEPLAY: 5/5. The gameplay is absolutely great. There was nothing else like it at the time. It created a new style of play all it's own. CHALLENGE: 5/5. Let's be blunt here. This game is difficult. It will not be beaten on your first try. The game is not THAT hard after all. I've beaten it, and I'm not the only one. The enemies all follow a definite pattern. FUN FACTOR: 5/5. This game rocks.

  Who is Simon Belmondo
Review created: 10/30/03
by: tommy_lop -- a member of Epinions

Pros:
Great graphics for NES standards

Cons:
really hard

OK Epinions is really screwed up, they have an N64 description with a pool picture. Oh well anyway since it's close to Halloween I decided to review this classic that I have been playing on my PC thanks to the Konami Collectors Series. The game is definitely a classic and people who haven't played this game, but play the original may be a bit off at how different this game is compared to the modern Castlevania games. Story. Your Simon Belmando (not to be confused with that Pilot Wings reject named Simon Belmont on Captain N the game master.) and your out to destroy Dracula with your whip. Why.
