This is the first Castlevania for the PS2.

The graphics are nice although some rooms and corridors are reused which can get repetative.

STORY:
The story details the origins of the famous 'Vampire Killer' and how it was created.
We learn a little of Dracula's origins like his true name (before he became known as Dracula).
The game's voice acting is done rather well which really does help carry the story. If you own the American version you can change the voices to Japanese.

GAMEPLAY:
The game takes place in Lord Dracula's Castle and is divided into areas or levels which are entered via teleporters.
Leon, the main character fights with a whip known as the Vampire Killer and by pressing a combination of the Square and Triangle buttons you can pull off some cool looking attack combos which more of them are unlocked as you progress.
In addition, Leon can use Sub weapons which are like throwing weapons for example bottles of holy water, axes etc. These consume 'hearts' every time you use them. Finding and equiping 'Orbs' will alter each sub weapon in the way Leon uses it.
Leon also uses 'Relics' which consumes Magic Power (you can fill your magic power back up by using the mana prism item or perfect guarding).
Relics range from replenishing Health to making Leon invisible.

MUSIC:
I thought that the music in this game was the best in the Castlevania series.
Imagine classical mixed with dance music and you get a rough idea.
Leon's Theme is typical of this.

EXTRAS:
To get the most out of this game, you will need to find colour coded keys which are found in each level. These keys will open doors in other levels, so expect to to revisit the same level 2 or 3 times if you want to find all the relics.
There are a nubmber of hidden elemental bosses in some of the levels which if you are good enough to find and beat them will drop other whips for you to use.
There is one other awesome hidden boss deep within the castle called the Forgotten One. If you want lots of blood, gore and intestines, then you'll find them all here.

Finishing the game will let you play as one of the bosses (won't spoil which one). The game play with this boss is much different than Leon. This boss has a new attack scheme.
Then there is one last character to play as which you get by finishing the game with the boss. This new character (again I won't spoil who it is, but think of the Halloween theme)is one of the cutest designed characters I've ever seen...
There is also 'Crazy Mode' which once you have finished the game can be played again with a much harder difficulty setting.

Overall this is a simple pick up and play type game. Enjoyable and worth buying.

This game is awesome. Graphics are awesome. It is hard though. I am a decent gamer and this is hard for me. Monsters are awesome and hidden items are fun to find. I get very lost in the castle/game and even with a map it's hard to tell where the heck you are. But this is castlevania at its finest that's what it's about getting sucked into the castle/game for hours on end. Graphics are awesome, Out of 10, i put it at a 9.3. It's a must buy for me on the PS2. Thanks

Frankly, I bought this game on a whim. I've never played a castlevania game before, and didn't know what to expect. I was pleasantly surprised to find that, for a game that has the same 20 button combos (all using two buttons), this game was challenging and fun. The enemies were diverse, and i thoroughly enjoyed killing them.
It was not an exceptionally original game, but good for what it was. After all, you can only have so many blond, angsty boys looking to save the helpless female in a gothic setting. Oooo... they'll eat your flesh and suck your blood...

well i brought this game for my son since he had the others and there are no regrets here , the graphics are great , the backround music is very nice , and the story line of the game is well thought out as well, the creatures you will come across and have to battle are awsome looking , they remind me of resident evil type creatures , i hope that people give this game a try and from what i have heard there are new versions for the newer systems that are out now , cant wait to try them and rate them as well , happy holidays :)

  Castlevania: Lament of Innocence

Castlevania: Lament of Innocence has generally received positive reviews since its release. On Game Rankings, the game has an average score of 78%, based on 59 reviews.[1] On Metacritic, the game has an average score of 79 out of 100, based on 45 reviews.[2]

X-Play gave it a 3 out of 5, calling it a Devil May Cry clone, while EGM gave it 8.0, 7.5, and 7.5 (out of ten). On the other hand, GamePro gave it a 5.0 (their highest score) on the fun factor, stating that it was the first successful 3-D Castlevania game.[3] IGN gave it an outstanding score of 9.0 (out of ten) calling it the most stylish Castlevania game to date, with a brilliant musical score and many game options.[4] 1up.com described it as returning to Castlevania's action-heavy roots in order to ease its transition to 3-D, but features such as the card system from Castlevania: Circle of the Moon was missed.[5]

To me this game is very similar to Castlevania Harmony of Dissonance. Like HoD this game is fun and all but not perfect. The graphics and gameplay are superb. As is the music. When you’re exploring the castle, the awesome graphics and organ heavy music really sets the mood. The main character Leon controls smoothly and his whip strikes look and feel powerful. Plus the boss battles are tough but not overly difficult. And the camera does not seem to blind me as much as in Devil May Cry. Though Lament of Innocence has plenty of short comings: 1) The enemies and level design are reused way too much. Too many of the corridors and enemies look and act exactly the same. 2) The magic system is 'dumbed' down. This games magic system is based around your subweapons, much like Harmony of Dissonance. Why they could not have implemented the awesome magic of Symphony of the Night or Dawn of Sorrow, I don’t know. 3) Too many things are overly simplified like the combos and armors. There are no 'secret' armors or combos. You get them all as you gradually progress through the game. In the end this is a great game and i enjoyed it much more than Devil May Cry. But when it stands next to some of the other Castlevania games it is far from perfect.

Even the Supernintendo version is better than this. The camera angles are so weird and off-centre that it makes jumping from platform to platform excessively difficult. The tasks are really ordinary, the "tricks" you have to use to defeat bosses have no basis in logic....you find yourself spending inordinate amounts of time trying to guess what the programmers had in mind.
There are many way better platform games out there.

I did not fulled my expectations, i hope the gameplay, graphics etc were better. It is not bad, but it could be better because it comes from the same team of Symphony of the Nigtht! (better Castlevania ever) The most important aspect of the game is the history...

Just take 2 minutes and read this. This is very EASY to do! It literally
takes 10 minutes to setup. Simply follow the steps below. I promise you,
this is 100% real. I will answer you on any question! Here is what you
do. Click on the link below, register, pick an account type (referral is
the easiest) and complete just 1 offer (Very important that you complete
the 1 offer otherwise your account will sit in limbo until you do). This
is not like other sites where you need to complete one offer on 2 or 3
different pages!!! And a lot of these offers are FREE trials with
nothing else to buy...No commitments!!!

There are plenty of cool offers to choose from such as Blockbuster
online, Stamp.com, Netflix, Gamefly which are services you would
regularly sign up for anyways and their all secure networks, why not use
them to get a free PS3 System or cash (I did the Stamps.com for a 30 day
free trial and it never cost me a penny and I received credit for it the
same day). Look at the offers and choose the one that works for you.
After signing up and completing your one offer, simply refer 8-14 people
(depending on the FREE prize you choose) to do the same under your link
(just post the same thing as I have on eBay, and you'll get your
referrals before the auction even ends.)

Then they will ship your PS3 System or your selected item for free, I
chose the PS3 80gb System. No Joke, 100% REAL!!! The reason these
companies make money, is because most people don't bother getting all
the referrals. All you have to do is post it ! They use us as
advertisement by word of mouth which saves them tons of money which goes
toward yours and my free gift. These are legit companies such as
Blockbuster, Netflix, Gamefly etc... You can copy my listing if you
want. You must use your own authentic link though. You will get your own
personal link after your orders placed.

Step 1: COPY AND PASTE THIS LINK IN YOUR ADDRESS BAR http://www.YourPS34free.com/index.php?ref=5173274

Step 2: Sign up and chose an account type (Referral is the easiest and
best).

Step 3: Complete just 1 offer (like Blockbuster or Stamps.com) and refer people to do the same (use eBay! Do what I did, copy my ad).

Step 4: Receive your PS3 System for FREE!!!!!!!!!! (Even The Shipping Is Free!!!)

For proof that this is for real, click on the link below. It's the
company that is behind everything.

I know your gonna say what does this guy have to offer that no one else has already said? I can explain why I would recomend this person to anyone and everyone.

I have tried several different locations of different distributors to find a certain game that works. Over and over I took trips store after store with no result of aquiring a working copy of the game I've been trying to get ahold of.

Finally I decided to give it one last shot and search ebay. I came across mastergame77's listing and decided why not?. The first time I bought from him after going through major chains and the Game worked like a charm. Not a single flaw. It was as though i bought it new. I know i know your telling yourself that this guy is making this up. Well I'm not.

All I can say is this person does exactly what they say they are gonna do. I'm definitely comming back to buy from this shop without a doubt!

  Castlevania Lament of Innocence
Review created: 08/04/07

Generally, from the box art graphics on the back, it looks like its okay quality, but overall the graphics are superb for a ps2 game originaly made in 2003. The backgrounds of the castle are all beautifully rendered, and although one may get frustated at the camera angles at first, it is an exceptionaly explorable world. What it really is about the graphics, is that, they are smooth, while not super-realistic, they are extremely smooth, and never show different layers or polygons. In this game, there are no polygons. If your already a big Castlevania fan, you'll find this game is the beginning for the Belmont clan, this is where the series starts in a chronological order. Like most games installments in the castlevania seires it has the same haunting charm. If your new to casltevania, you may find you will like it. An excellent game, difficult to find (in good condition), I looked for a whole year keeping my eyes open at games stores trying to find a copy with the box AND game booklet. I only found it once I searched ebay.
A very good game overall.

This game was cool for about the first ten minutes. It gets old really fast. Sure you get new weapons, but they are all whips that all look the same, only colored differently. The games on the DS are much more addictive and playable. This one is just kind of confusing and cheesey (grant, it was made in the 90's so thats acceptable).

  Castlevania: Lament of Innocence PS2
Review created: 07/09/07

Playstation 2's first Castlevania game is AWESOME! The gameplay, graphics, and storyline are excellent. I always wanted to buy it but I was always too poor. I believe overall it was about 12 dollars, which was an excellent pickup. The game is not as long as I thought, but kept me thourghly entertained for a number of evenings.
