ok, before you go any further, there's a good reason you're reading this review.
I just bought this game from Best Buy for $9.99 as a "Konami's Best" Title. It plays the same. The actual game and manual look like the original, just the outer case looks different. Check with your local store to see if they have them. This game is stellar, I love the gameplay more than anything else. I haven't been this hyped up about a Castlevania game since Super Castlevania 4 on snes. Don't pay more than $9.99, and think about shipping, people. Nine Nintey-nine.

This game was pretty addictive. The layout is very nice. There are so many things to do and different ways to complete the game. Fans of metroid will appreciate this game. I was very impressed with all of the spells, weapons, and items in the game... its pretty massive.

Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow for the Nintendo DS

I bought this game because the reviews on it were amazing. Almost every site that reviewed this game gave it a 9 out of 10 average. They reviewed the game over graphics, gameplay, sound, desiriability, and overall experience. I am very satisfied with my purchase because this game was everything that i expected. What i like most about this game was the way they use the DS featured touch screen as part of the gameplay. Although this game was everything i expected and more, it still has its downfalls... what i dislike about this game is that some enemys were made to be very annoying and just in the way of you trying to progress with the story line. One of the creatures in this game was made to "pop out" of the air and slowly makes it way towards you and just touches you to make you lose HP. these type of creatures do not make the game any better and are just very annoying. despite that one creature this game is amazing. I recommend it to anyone who owns a Nintendo DS and is looking for graphics gameplay and the touch screen ability!

A sequel to one of the greatest Castlevania games for the Gameboy Advance, Dawn of Sorrow leads off two years later after Soma's battle with the Chaos. After thinking that everything was over and the spirits had left him, he is confronted with a dark preistess who forces Soma to bring back their dark master. Play as Soma Cruz again, gain new spirits, gain new weapons, and gasp at the new animated layout for the characters. A must have for Castlevania fans.

  Castlevania rocks!

How many times have you been playing Castlevania on your gameboy or other system and have to pause to look at your stats or map? No more with this great edition to the DS lineup!

Dawn of Sorrow takes place where Aria of Sorrow left off on the Gameboy (that is if you got the good ending), and we join our friend Soma and crew on their latest journey to stop the tides of evil. This time around though, the monsters have indefinite power, that is unless you seal them up though, using the DS's touchscreen capabilities. While this offers an exciting new element to the series and incorporates the DS touchscreen compatibility, it does get annoying sometimes when you were positive you drew that seal write, only to have that monster revive at partial health.

Fans of the series will reconize familiar creatures as well as familiar names of weapons, especially those who played Aria of Sorrow. And those of you that still have that cartridge, be sure to pop it in your DS when you start your game, and you'll get a special item in your inventory.

Dawn of Sorrow is another great edition to a great series of games. A must have for Castlevania fans, and anyone else who enjoy some classic side scrolling action!

  Increasingly Rare game
Review created: 08/08/06

This new addition in the Castlevania series still does not capture the complete essence of the PS original that started it all, however, it is still a fine addition to the metrovania genre. This game is much easier than the other Castlevania games on the GBA, yet various puzzles and endings the game provides makes up for what it lacks in difficulty. The addition of playing as a Belmont after completing most of the game is a traditional addition to the Castlevania series. However, this time Belmont is joined by a female counter part who can be switched with throughout this second attempt on the castle.

This is a great addition for any fan of the series and anyone who has not played these side scrolling Castlevania adventures will be in for quite a treat.

The only down side is that this game is becoming increasingly rare, so buy it before the price sky rockets.

Castlevania on the handhelds are usually very good but this game, which is a sequel to the GBA's Aria of Sorrow, is the best I've played. Not only is the action fast-paced but the main character is customizable to anyone's play-style. With so many attacks (via the soul system), weapons and equipment and a cast of entertaining characters this will be greatly enjoyed by anyone who enjoyed the first 'Sorrow' game or the Playstation classic Symphony of the Night.

obviously this is a phenominal game... anyone familiar with the castlevania series wouldn't expect any less. i believe it takes place where the gba title aria of sorrow left off. not too sure on but i'm pretty positive. it transfers to ds quite well i think using the touch screen in a new a intuitive way. after defeating bosses you have to perform a magic seal... basically what you have to do is draw a certain pattern (depending on the boss) in one single stroke. all around a great friggin game

Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow (Nintendo DS)
Review created: 10/03/06

Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow, is a suitable and graphically superior follow-up to Aria of Sorrow. (It is the first Castlevania title to deserve the status of SEQUEL to Symphony of The Night.) If you are familiar with the game play mechanics, then you know that this is a "must have" title for horror/action-rpg fans. For newcomers, this title is a more than suitable point at which to enter the world of Castlevania.

For very small children, the game might be a little too scary, but the graphics are more cartoony than realistic. The game also, does touch on the demonic, which is expressed in a "Japanese Anime" sensibility. (To put things in perspective, the violence and dark themes in this game are portrayed in a more innocuous fashion than Looney Tunes violence.)

Overall, the game is very high quality, with great graphics, fun play mechanics and an involving story line. This is, hands down, one of the best platform/side-scroller, action/rpg games ever, let alone on the DS!!!

My only critique is that it is too short. The replay value is fair, however. Some would argue this point.

I purchased this title on ebay, due to the shortage in retail stores at the time. Ebay has always been "the place" to go for obscure and/or rare items. I suggest doing your homework and paying a fair market price for this game. However, even at a slight premium, it is still worth the money.

One of the best DS games and a darn good Castlevania
Review created: 08/09/06

One of the best games for the DS, but unfortunately pretty hard to find now. Refines a lot of previous Castlevania play elements such as movement, item collection. Audio is excellent and graphics for the most part are very well done; same level of detail as Symphony of the Night, if not a little better. Very impressive boss fights and an excellent final area. Alucard playable in a second quest. However, long-time fans might feel as if they are retreading the same old castle grounds and some of the areas may feel a bit bland or generic. Still, it's hard to go wrong with this one.

One of the best games for the DS. The perfect game for people who like Platform Action. Its pure action but it has some RPG elements, a lot of unlockables and collectibles giving you hours of play.
It has great sound too, if you played and liked the classic Symphony of the night for PS1, this is the right choice, if you dont give it a try. I think this franchise started on the NES and is alive 'til this days. A Classic that never gets old.

Must have for any DS owner!
Review created: 03/25/06

Where to begin? If you've played previous titles for the GBA, you already have some idea of what this will be like. Being the first actual sequel rather than a different story line, the game follows Aria of Sorrow a year later. The gameplay is as tight as ever, meaning that any mistakes are made by player error rather than sloppy controls. There is little use of the stylus other than drawing magic seals to banish bosses, but that is not a bad thing. The most useful feature is having your castle map visible on the top screen as you play on the bottom. No more pausing to check your map to see where you are and where you want to go!

The audio and music are the best of the handheld games yet, though not at the level of the console titles, especially the incredible Symphony of the Night on PS. This game however, surpasses even the great SotN in length and depth, the soul system from AoS is back and more extensive than ever. Having the ability to have two complete sets of equipment and souls you can switch between with the press of a button only adds strategy and ease depending on the situation you find yourself in. Add a difficulty that is much harder than previous games, but not unfair only finishes the list of good things you will find. If you claim to be any kind of fan of the series (whether console or portable) you owe it to yourself to get this game, even if you have to purchase a DS in order to do so.

Highly reccommended, even those with little interest will find more fun than they would guess once picking this one up.

This game is by far one of the first few must own titles for the DS. Its graphics, gameplay and replay value are all apart of this great game. I love going through the rooms and just laying waste to what is there. Seeing the map at all times is a nice added feature that will become necessary for titles to have in the future.

Check it out, you have my word, that you will not be disappointed.

  Another Great Castlevania Game
Review created: 12/18/06

This is yet another Fantastic Game in the Castlevania Franchise. It has alot of play value, a ok story, and solid gameplay. The only reason its not 5/5 is because its kind of easy and it can be very short if you just to through the game fast. But overall this is a great game with MANY other extra features, it probably should be a 5/5 but I think its closer to a 4/5, I would have rated this 4.5 if I could. Great game anyone with a DS should BUY, one of the top DS games there is period!

This game has everything I wanted to see in a castlevania title.

If anything, I could say that there needed to be a few more secrets, and the difficulty could've been much greater; but minor problems such as these are not enough to detract from the quality of the game.

I highly recommend this game as it is an all-star in the DS library.

This is probably the best Castlevania to date. Definitely the best on any haldheld I have played. The two screen gimick on the DS adds the ability ot be able to change the formula of the Castlevania game and they took advantage of this. The graphics are good and the music is great.. for a handheld anyways. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who like the Castlevania series.

This is one of the best Castlevania's to date.

I bought this because I had recently received a Nintendo DS lite as a gift, but I had wanted this game since it first came out with the original DS. I had also really enjoyed its prequel, Castlevania Aria of Sorrow. Oddly enough it seemed that you could not find Dawn of Sorrow in any store anymore so I had to come to Ebay.

If you like Aira of Sorrow you will love this game. It plays exactly the same, but with some new added features. The graphics are updated as well as a new story and a new, larger castle to explore. The added touchscreen feature gave the game a new feel while leaving the game to remain familiar to be very enjoyable.

The best part of this game, in my opinion, is after you beat the game you get to play as Julius Belmont like you would in Aria Of Sorrow. However, the biggest difference is that you get to play as Julius Belmont, Yoko Belnades, and Genya Arikado (Alucard). This is great because it has the playing style of Castlevania 3 on SNES when you get to switch between Trevor, Sypha, and Alucard.

The only real let downs to this game are that it is very similar to Aria of Sorrow. You have many of the same enemies, souls, and overall feel. The only added feature to the soul element is that you can bind them with weapons, but other than that the game is very similar to Aria. I also found the story to be lacking, but that seems to be the case in any Castlevania (how many different ways can you have the humans vs Dracula story portrayed anyway?).

Even with it's minor flaws I very much enjoyed this game.

Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow (Nintendo DS)
Review created: 09/01/06
by:
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow (Nintendo DS)

Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow (Nintendo DS) is the sequel to the GBA title Aria of Sorrow, which was also a very good Castlevania game. The first in a hopefully long line of Castlevania games for the DS, Dawn of Sorrow is exactly what a Castlevania game should be, whith a few interesting DS add ins. The stylus is used to draw a magic "Seal" to defeat each boss. It can also be used to direct your familiars, and break certain obstacles in the game. I felt this was a creative if minor use of the DS touch screen. The absolute best thing about playing Dawn of Sorrow on the DS is the dual screens...the bottom screen shows the main screen while the top one shows either your player stats or the castle map. No more pushing select to view the map every 10 seconds! The graphics and sound are also great, which has long been a Castlevania tradition. Game play is exactly what you would expect, and storyline is also very good.

The only negative I can think of regarding this title is that it no longer seems to be available at any major retailer. I could only find a copy on eBay, and was lucky to get one at a good price.

Bottom line: A must for any Castlevania fan!
