CASCADE is part of "The Healing Music Series"-works by composers concerned with the application of music for relaxation and heightened well being. Laraaji, a musician and teacher, performs solo here on an electrified 36-string zither, an instrument (related to the lyre and the harp) that has a rich, calming timbre. Laraaji has composed three sections according to different tonal patterns (Dorian, Ionian, and Aeolian), with each pattern corresponding to a certain effect on the body and mind.
The first section, "Concentration," is intended to help the listener achieve a peaceful level of mental clarity. The second, "Circulation," is intended to balance emotions and dissolve inner tension. The last, "Activation," balances the physical body with its pulse and rhythmic synchronicity. As its composer intended, this beautiful, deeply meditative music is as much a balm to the body and mind as it is a delight to the ear.
