CARTOGRAPHY came 10 years into the existence of this Canadian band who, if nothing else, are a model of consistent quality. CARTOGRAPHY continues their pursuit of hummable (and often fist-pumping) rock melodies garnished with concert hall-filling synths and Dave Gowans's deep baritone, which recalls Ian Curtis and The National's Matt Beringer in equal measure. "Broken Transit Broken Soil" opens the album with a combative takedown of pop radio fare, and from there, CARTOGRAPHY is equal parts sunset ruefulness ("Water By the Wayside") and amplified riffing ("Complications May Arise").
