While best known for his classic '60s hit, "Slip Away," Clarence Carter continued to record for the rest of the century. This 1996 release offers nine Carter originals. His voice is in fine form and is nicely bolstered by horns and background vocalists. The core tracks are studio-built, with programmed drums and keyboards.
While CARTER'S CORNER is a sprightly album, a better starting point for anyone unfamiliar with his earlier work would be SNATCHING IT BACK: THE BEST OF CLARENCE CARTER. But for fans of fine soul singing that includes rhythm, punch, and bluesy character, this is a strong set for a man then nearing his 60th birthday.
