Helpful book for the serious gardener

This book is an excellent companion for the home gardener. It lists all vegetables and flowers common to household gardens, and each of their complements (which plants should be combined for optimum growth and disease and insect resistance).

For example, we had planted yarrow and gallardia in our flower garden. The gallardia grew only 18" tall. It should have been twice that size. The book states that yarrow slows the growth of other plants, shortening them. This is true.

This book also has drawings for layouts of ideal gardens.

This book will be a great help for future years as a reference for my home garden.

I had the first print from several years ago but it was lost when I moved. This copy is better than the first printing. If you like to garden this IS THE BOOK FOR YOU!!!!! It is great for the beginner as well as an experienced gardener. I have been gardening for 30 years and I highly recomend this book.

It is one that will be used and not put in the bookshelf and never looked at again.

I saw this book in a bookstore, thumbed thru it for about an hour but put it back on the shelf and went home. I couldn't get it out of my head so looked for it online. It was very helpful, easy to read and comprehend with drawings of sample garden layouts. I'm new at gardening and look forward to many years of sucessful planting with Loise Riotte's helpful insight.

To be honest, I have not looked at any other companion gardening books. I didn't see any need to.

  easy to use and understand

I decided to buy this book b/c of a friend of mine who has what looks like an unorganized garden both in layout - not neat rows - and how plants are grouped gets an ourstanding result. I asked her and she said she uses companion planting. I need all the help I can get b/c I love the results but not the process of gardening! :-) I can't speak for the results yet, my seeds were just planted in trays for transplant in a few weeks, but I can say that the book offered quite a bit of good information that was easy to understand. While it may be a bit too ambitious for a gardener of my caliber/motivation I didn't find it at all intimidating. Good luck with your veggies!

  Love this book and seller!

This is a great book for anyone who wants to grow an organic garden. My husband and I have been struggling with seedlings being eaten by pincer bugs and various others. Companion planting is a must if you don't want to use chemicals and pesticides. I told a friend about this book so I bought her a copy because she wanted to borrow mine. I didn't want to give it up for any length of time :) She absolutely loves it too. We both avoid reading books if at possible but Louise Roiotte makes this book so interesting, helpful and easy to read that we can't put it down. I highly recommend it! As for the seller...they shipped both books out right away and they were brand new as stated.
