Synopsis Based on the title character of "Carmilla", a story by J. Sheridan Le Fanu dating from 1871. For most of Carmilla's life, from the late 1800s to the present, she has been a vampire, and alone. Lauren, a despondent, overeducated (for the job she holds) twenty-something woman from Chicago, is also alone. After an apparently chance encounter between the two women, Lauren moves to northern tip of Michigan, where she eventually runs into an old high school boyfriend. When Carmilla follows her, Lauren begins to suspect that their initial meeting was not as accidental as it seemed.
