Album Notes Producers: Murray Krugman, Martin Birch, Sandy Pearlman. Includes liner notes by Arthur Levy. This is a collection of 13 tracks spanning the band's 14 LPs. Personnel: Allen Lanier (vocals, guitar, keyboards); Donald Roeser, Eric Bloom (vocals, guitar); Albert Bouchard (vocals, drums); Joe Bouchard (vocals). Liner Note Author: Arthur Levy . From the mid-'70s to the early '80s, Blue Oyster Cult was one of the world's top heavy metal bands, consistently headlining arenas and issuing a string of gold and platinum albums. While the 1995 double-disc collection WORKSHOP OF THE TELESCOPES proved to be the definitive BOC best-of, the 1987 single-disc CAREER OF EVIL: THE METAL YEARS is recommended to the fan seeking the band's best metal of the '70s. Although it doesn't include one of the Blue Oyster Cult's biggest hits, 1982's "Burnin' For You," it does contain plenty of fine studio and live tracks. Although BOC scored many hit studio albums, the group built its reputation as a live act, as evidenced by live versions of such standards as "Godzilla," "The Red & the Black," and "Cities on Flame." What makes CAREER OF EVIL a stronger collection than the far more pedestrian ON FLAME WITH ROCK AND ROLL (a mid-line priced release from 1990) is the inclusion of early nuggets like "7 Screaming Diz-Busters," "ME 262," "Harvester of Eyes," and "E.T.I." To sample why many metal and alternative bands from the '80s and '90s considered Blue Oyster Cult a major influence early on, give CAREER OF EVIL: THE METAL YEARS a listen.
