  Great CD

I fell for Lucinda Williams when I heard her version of "Gentle On My Mind" and the end (credits) of Talladega Nights. I just had to have more of songs. CAR WHEELS ON A GRAVEL ROAD is a great CD, I love her singing, and writing. I would recommend it to anyone who likes good ole soft singing from a lovely woman.

  Lucinda Williams
Review created: 09/06/09

I have gradually become a fan of Lucinda Williams. I already had her “World Without Tears release,” and after recently seeing her performance on Austin City Limits, I wanted to go deeper into her catalogue. I bid on “Car Wheels On A Gravel Road” on eBay, and can’t stop listening to it. Although her voice is at times reminiscent of Bonnie Raitt, Ms.Williams is an original, with a literary voice that’s both observant and bittersweet. She’s a master songwriter surrounded by exceptionally good musicians, and excellent recording production values. If great lyrics, and a rich melodic style ranging from sensitive to raw is what you desire in your next music purchase, then I think you’ll like this.

Title portrays what you get; gritty Blues-no frills.

This is Lucinda just before she made the "turn" from raw and scratchy moonshine Blues to what we know 10 years later as a fantastic songwriter that can blend her cigarette burned vocal style with just the right amount of metaphorical raunch. This is "no-frills" Blues without the mastered polish.

The one that started it all.

I first heard Lucinda Williams on the Letterman show and he had such high praise for her that I decided to give it a try. I fell in love. A great artist with such poetic inspiration. I feel like a could never tire of these songs.

Car Wheels on a Gravel Road
Review created: 04/09/08

Lucinda Williams has captured in song the essenece of pure rural country, She is the female "Tom Waits" of todays country music-
No rhinestones , no silicon needed , Lucinda is worth a first listen because you will enjoy her cutting edge attitude forever . Few women can project and perform with true heart & soul with only a six string guitar and a place to sing- Baby you are a little on the "trashy" side ...and that is why I love ya' Baby... keep on singing your way...Lucinda Williams Rules !

This is my favorite Lucinda Williams cd. I respect her as a songwriter and love her singing - I listened to my first one so much that I finally wore it out and had to buy this one! There is not a bad song on this cd - she effortlessly goes from one subject to another and her phrasing and style are so unique that you are hooked!

  Excellent Twang
Review created: 02/12/08

Like the jingle jangle of the Rickenbacker? Like Steve Earle? The Twangtrust? Emmylou Harris? Buddy Miller? Jim Lauderdale? Then you probably already have this CD? If not, buy it. It's much more than the 1999 Grammy Award for Best Contemporary Folk Album it received. Folk? Nah. In Twang We Trust.
