This 1977 release stars James Brolin and a collection of other character actors in a surprisingly well made action / horror movie. The Car, which really does look menacing as it runs down fleeing pedestrians, is on a mission to terrorize a small town in New Mexico. The sheriff, James Brolin, is in charge of stopping it. He soon finds that the Car is indestructible and begins to wonder if its "a phantom, demon, or the devil himself".
Its interesting to note that late Chuch of Satan leader Anton LaVey was given a 'Technical Advisor' credit on the film. The film's director also directed "A Man Called Horse" starring Richard Harris.
When this movie was released in 1977 it received horrible reviews and was generally ignored. That's a shame because this is a really well made film. James Brolin, who stars as Sheriff Wade Parent, does a pretty good job in the movie as do the other assorted character actors. The Car itself is perfectly creepy and the sound effects of the Car are unforgettable. The action sequences are well done, with some great stunts, and the movie was engaging from the opening credits. Overall this is a classic 1970's horror movie that would be a welcome addition to any movie fan's library.
