A Gem of a Disc!

Truly a hidden gem! I had not been aware of Car Caught Fire...I thought The Bears had ceased to be years ago. While looking to get a CD copy of Rise and Shine, (I no longer have a turntable but have many LP's), I came across this disc. It's full of exquisitely crafted pop tunes, as good as anything The Bears have done. Highlights for me are 'Dave', 'Success', 'Under the Volcano,'and '117 Valley Drive'. Why these guys are not better known remains a mystery to me.

) This is one of Belew's more pop-focused albums, but the art is still there! A few tunes sound very Beatlesque, and the Rickenbackers serve up a guitar tone that I wasn't expecting from the guy who usually eschews "squirelly tone" in a guitar. Think Tom Petty if he could actually sing and the Heartbreakers could actually play. "Car Caught Fire" is top-shelf!
