  Know the Past

What a great way to get to know the past. This is an awesome book. It takes a few pages to get into the Old English but once you do--you'll love it. There are 22 stories from travelers on a journey. They are fun--some slightly naughty and bawdy but rare and hilarious! It is not just for college students--more people should read it!

  Summer Reading Fun!

The layout of this book is excellent. The Olde English is written on the left page, with modern english on the right. The publishers have somehow managed to lay it out line for line, so that if you wanted to read the Olde English words, you just look to the left on the line you are reading. And if you do understand Olde English, and any part gives you trouble, just look to the right, and there is the modern translation. Excellent!

The Canterbury Tales by Geoffrey Chaucer
Review created: 07/12/08

I've found, like many before me, that Chaucer has many delightful little works within a work here. I thank him for popularizing English as a written art form, as I did not complete my training in Latin. You will be using such foul and blasphemous language as "By God's Blood and Bones" for many weeks upon completing this book. My favorite tale is the Miller's; that naughty Allison and her nether eye....

Medieval Times in the Eyes of Chaucer
Review created: 07/09/07

I am a Medieval Times fan and have read many books, fiction & non-fiction on that time period. This book is very descriptive on the daily lives of the Medieval Times people as each tells a story on the pilgrimage. The book is very long and sometimes overly full of narrative. I did read the WHOLE book. I read the book not only for the Medieval theme but because I wanted to fill in the blanks of classic books I missed growing up.

Once you get into it . . .

Several stories in the Canterbury Tales are fabulous, extremely funny, and just outrageous in nature. I loved the book, although it took a page or two per story to really get into it.
