This is a high quality printer that you can buy cheaper ink cartridges for. I had one for 5 years that I printed to its death. (I was going through college, teaching, and had two print happy teens--it lasted through tens of thousands of printings!). This one I bought on ebay was to put in my classroom to print.

I love this printer. You can get inexpensive ink on Ebay for it. Mine died on me because I carelessly put a chord on top of it and it went to print and sucked in the chord apparently destroying the print head. :( I'm looking for another one.

  Canan i860 InkJet Photo Printer
Review created: 11/09/09

I love the quality printing of this printer.
I had one prior to this one and it still worked fine the day I gave it to a friend.
I bought this one because I tried other printers and the quality didn't even come close.

I would definantly recommend this printer above the rest to anyone.

A Great Printer that has saved me a bunch.
Review created: 10/07/09

I have had this printer for 6 years now and have only had to change cartridges
about two to three times. Once you get a technique (wear nitrile gloves) refilling is a cinch. Seal hole by putting a little hot glue above the hole and smear glue with a screwdriver over the hole. It's a toss-up whether to buy or refill since the refillable cartridges are dirt cheap. The head is very easily taken apart and cleaned using an ultrasonic cleaner. There are only two screws holding it together, but be careful flexing the ribbon connector. Too much flexing and it will snap into two. Never use hot water to clean the head as it will deteriorate a plastic mask over the outlet jets. Then you will have to buy or find another one - voice of experience.

I have printed a lot with this printer over the years and do not intend to get rid of it.

  Just My Thoughts
Review created: 05/05/09

I bought mine new from Staples about three years ago. I used it a little and then my main computer crashed. It set idle for about two years and then I hooked it up to my backup computer and ordered some new cartridges. It works fine and prints color photos on regular paper that are almost photo quality. As for ink it is almost impossible to beat the price of those found on ebay. Have never had any problems with clogging or any problems for that matter. I have two other brands of printers that use the two ink cartridges and it prints as well as either of them black and white or color.

  Used Canon i860 InkJet Printer

Like one other reviewer mentioned, the lawsuit at Epson and their chipped cartidges. I saw the crap heading for the fan. I bought this used and can fill it for pennies. It works excellent, prints fast, I'm in love! I may buy another one for backup or at least a backup printhead.

1 of the Best Low Cost Inkjets
Review created: 01/27/08

With the introduction of 'chipped ' ink cartridges and the law suite concerning Epson compatibles, this has to be the best home bubble jet/photo printer left. Excellent output quality, individual ink tanks and good speed makes this a color printer's dream. I can reload this printer for about $7.50 ( new compatible ink carts)Before I relied on the Epson Color Stylus 880. Now the Canon i860 is the heavy hitter.

  Best Printer for the Money
Review created: 10/04/07

This printer is one of the last ones to have both a parallel port and USB option. I used these dual options to connect both of our computers to it without networking. Cheap OEM cartridges from Ebay work perfectly with the printer ink monitor, unlike many newer Canons. The large black BCI-3eB cartridge is used for typing and prevents the BCI-6BK photo-black from being consumed too quickly on black and white text printing. The printhead will clog after awhile, but it is relatively easy to clean by removing and soaking alternately in ammonia overnight, then isopropyl alcohol overnight and flushing the inkjets with a warm water stream from a spray bottle between soaks until there is no bleeding from the inkjets on the printhead. Don't give up on it; just take your time. It is the most reliable printer I have, when dutifully serviced as stated. It is an excellent color printer.

Cons: I prefer Adobe's Active Share software freebie, but the included software is OK.

  Not very reliable

This printer stopped printing after about a year of use. It really burns through the ink cartridges also. Power cleaning of the print head didn't seem to work either. You get what you pay for.
