Compact size, powerful zoom and takes great pictures

I had a Canon SureShot 70 that took great pictures for many years. So when I dropped it and it broke, I decided to look for another Canon. I found this one on eBay for 1/3 the store price. Brand new in the original box. And just as expected, it takes great pictures with really nice color. The camera is compact for a 35mm --- it's actually smaller than my old SureShot 70 --- and very stylish. It's easy to use and has a very powerful 180mm zoom. Yes, 180! It uses regular 35mm film, rather than APS film which costs more both to buy and to develop than 35mm.

At first glance, most people think it's a digital camera because of the screen on the back. The screen displays the date and the other settings, and is always "on". My only suggestion to the designers at Canon would be to dim the screen after a few minutes of non-use or have a switch so I can turn it off.

All in all, I am very happy with this camera and I would whole-heartedly recommend it.

Got this camera for my mother so I have not used it. She does like just a litte more then she is use to. She only wanted a film camera so I really wanted to get her a nice one that would not kill me in price.

  Canon Sure Shot Purchase

I bought this camera for my dog sitter. She had always admired mine - and I was unable to purchase it at a store. (Everyone has moved to all digital - and this camera is "old fashioned" - with film.) I purchased this for her as a gift, copied my instructions from my camera and gave it to her. She was thrilled. Don't know if she has used it yet, but I was so happy to be able to give her something extra that I knew she really wanted. I was happy to be able to find it on e-bay - and - on top of that - the price was right!! Thanks.

  Canon Sure Shot Review

As of right now I love how you can zoom in and fix the focus on it. I had a canon in the past and within a year it was broke and the company wouldn't stand behind it to fix without a cost to me. I vowed to NEVER get another Canon, but a friend of mine convinced me to try this one. As of now it has not let me down. I will see when I get my first set of pictures developed.

Cannon Sure Shot Z180u compact film camera
Review created: 01/24/08

This is the top-of-the line camera for this series of cameras, with the longest telephoto lens, 180mm. Since digital cameras started to get better and cheaper just after these types of film cameras were developed, this also probably represents the highest technical level for compact 35mm film cameras, as interest in and development of them declined with increased interest in compact digital cameras of ever decreasing price.
The camera has an LCD screen and many custom functions, but is not water resistant, as are the products of some other manufacturers, such as Olympus.
Like all compact 35mm cameras, there is lower limit to size due to the size of the 35mm film roll. Most cameras of this type are about the same size.
The seller of this particular camera could probably have realized a higher selling price had he shown a photo of the actual camera and stated that the original box, carrying case, strap, instructions, and two rolls of film were included, rather than simply using a stock photo and stating that it was in good working condition. I bought this item for $10.25, including shipping, and am delighted with it.
When this camera was new, it probably cost more than I would have wanted to pay, but now cameras like this, and all film cameras in general, can be had for bargain prices, for those of us who still like to use them. I also bought an Olympus 35mm SLR camera, model IS-2 and am looking forward to getting it in the mail soon.
Relating specifically to this camera model, there is a diopter adjustment for the viewfinder, there are markings on the viewfinder to adjust for closer subjects, there is red-eye reduction, and there is a self-timer; all of which are nice. The zoom control is easy to use, but seems to stop at certain discrete points, rather than adjust continuously. Some information on the LCD screen can be viewed even when the power is off, which is nice.
All in all, I am very pleased with this purchase and with this camera.

I took the camera on vacation and shot nine rolls of film. The photos were fine. The camera functioned fine except a few times the button was balky to take the shot. Overall I am pleased and well satisfied.
