Now with 720p HD Video Recording...time for an upgrade!
    Review created: 10/24/09
8 of 8 people found this review helpful.

From the renowned Canon PowerShot S Series comes the newest addition, the SX20IS.
The highlighted addition that has been added since the previous model, the SX10IS, is 720p HD video, which really closes the gap between digital cameras and camcorders (next stop will be 1080p).

    The main changes are:
    -12.1MP (up from 10.0MP)
-720p HD Video (up from 480p)

The camera retains the look, feel, and controls of the SX10IS, which are quite different from previous models. The build quality is still solid, and you will be getting a camera that will last for years to come.

Given the features, and a price of around $350-$400, the value is most apparent when using this as both a digital still camera, and as a mid-range quality camcorder. The video quality is excellent, and the stereo microphones capture crisp audio, certainly much better than the video from any capable DSLR (which have a weird "rolling shutter" effect, and generally poor audio quality in comparison).
