Canon PowerShot SD990 IS Digital ELPH 14.7 Megapixel

Canon has hit another home run with the SD990 IS. I bought this camera for my wife, who is not real technically inclined and easily intimidated by too many dials and controls. With some patient introduction, she learned the basic controls quickly and started taking great photos with them. The face detect technology used in the camera is amazingly accurate. I am very pleased with this camera.

This is truly a great camera, I purchased mine for a trip Cabo San Lucas. I mentioned to a friend of mine that his camera always seemed to take such clear pictures, he told me it was a Canon SD550 but it was a few years old and that I should look at the newer SD880. As I was looking into the 880 online I noticed that there was a 990 so I compared the two and the 990 seemed to have everything the 880 and a whole lot more. I read several reviews and even watched a bunch of them on youtube and I couldn't find a bad thing written or said about it anywhere. Do your research look around and watch the videos if you do you will probably buy a SD990 it really is the greatest camera I have ever owned and it is simple to use. I really couldn't have been happier with another camera at almost any cost. I absolutely fell in love with this camera the first day I used it and literally carried it everywhere with me when I got to Cabo, and took over 500 pictures. If any of my friends or family were looking for a camera I would recommend they SD990. It is worth every penny.

So far, I like everything about this compact, lightweight but sturdy, pocket size camera that truly delivers. Great features and image quality and extremely good value.

Great points: superb zoom with digital stabilization, a few handy manual options, tons of pixels which allow shots in low light with high speed film

Not so great features: the screen seems polarized, impossible reading in vertical position under sunny condition. optical viewfinder superflous.

Overall it remains the best of its class small digital camera, with excellent quality pictures considering its pocket size.

This is a wonderful Camera. I have a 19th month old so I needed something to just pop out and take really fast and that is exactly what this does. It is fast, and small enough to take out with me in my purse to capture those special moments. The picture quality also comes out amazing! The menu is not too hard but it will take some getting used to. You could probably get away with not reading the manual but it will make things much easier if you do. The battery life is super long. I am very pleased with this camera!! Highly recommended!!

Top notch for a powershot, also Canon is the most trusted brand among professionals. I love my camera because it gives me great pictures for the price i paid. It comes with a 14.7 megapixel which is more than what I need but always better to have more megapixel than what i needed. Over all, LOVE THIS camera!!! VERY HAPPY WITH THE CANON SD990 IS!

I have been using Canon digital camera for over 5 years. It finally gave up on me and had problem with color exposure. So I chose the top of the line digital ELPH from Canon, the PowerShot SD990 IS. The most important factor of camera is the pictur quality (at least for myself). SD990 delivers superb picture quality over any pocket size digital camera. It has so many features including manual control. I don't need to talk about all of its great features because if you are reading this review, you probably already know everything about this camera. If you want top of the line, best quality pocket size digital camera, Canon SD990 IS is the top choice! Only thing I'll add to this review is that it counld be smaller. Canon tend to have bigger size pocket digital cameras but I guess that is reason why it delivers the best picture. Canon can spend more time trying to develop same high quality camera in smaller body. Then it will be the BEST OF ALL!

I've only owned this camera a few days and I must say I am very very excited! I can't wait to expand my use of this device and all the other features it has to offer. I would recommend to anyone who wants a quick perfect shot!!! :)

I love the small size of this camera. I carry it in my pocketbook at all times so I'll always have a camera on hand. I have a Canon Xti DSLR that takes excellent pictures, but it is cumbersome and with all the lens I use, it is heavy to lug around. I work for a newspaper and for a group shot, this works as well as my Xti. The pictures are very sharp and the color is very natural. I haven't had it that long, and I'm still learning new things I can do with it. The only disadvantage is the small zoom which is 3x. It would be nice to have more zoom maybe and less pixels. If I take a picture of something far away, I can always enlarge it on the computer and crop. That works pretty well. With almost 15 pixels you can crop to your heart's delight without sacrificing image. I don't think you would be disappointed if you bought this camera. Canon makes a good product. I've got a Panasonic TZ5 and prefer the Canon SD990 to it. I get too many blurry shots with the Panasonic, but with the Canon you can't hardly take a bad shot. Also, no red eyes! I have taken dozens of shots and not one red eye!

What an amazing camera! With an 8 Gb Memory card I can store over 1,100 photos and almost 2 hours of video all on the highest quality and resolution settings!! Battery life is excellent and the camera itself is a marvel to look at! What a superb product!!!!

This is a very good camera which borders on excellent. It has potential to be excellent if you know what you are doing. Canon menu systems are close to industry best, and with a little experimenting, you can make this camera produce some fantastic exposures. Sadly, some things are missing, such as time lapse photography, which earlier versions had. Ideally, it would be nice if the lens had a wider field of view. On the other hand, Macro, combined with high Mega-pixels makes for fabulous blowup prints of tiny subjects and there is very little background noise.

The camera is amazing. I specifically bought it to use at a concert. I took photos and videos and you can see facial expressions of the artist!! And the videos were great quality!!! At first, it seems like it might be overwhelming but it's actually very easy to use and figure out especially if you've had canon before, like I have. I am EXTREMELY HAPPY with the purchase and now have the perfect camera for all the concerts I attend. Thanks!
