Canon PowerShot SD1000 Digital ELPH 7.1 Megapixel

Product Description
Canon looked to the very first ELPH for inspiration when designing the PowerShot SD1000 Digital ELPH, and came up with a quintessential iteration of the icon: slim, clean-lined and fully flat. Inside, the SD1000 Digital ELPH looks only to the future: 7.1 megapixels, a 3x optical zoom and advanced DIGIC III ensure top-quality images, while focus is fast and sharp and red-eye is automatically corrected. The large and more colorful LCD screen now has a tough, anti-reflective coating that makes it as durable as it is beautiful.

This camera is a good all-around performer as far as sub-compact cameras go and, like most Canon cameras, is fairly easy to use. It is a popular model, though it will eventually be phased out in favor of image stabilized models, which have better low light performance.

    Strengths:
    - Small size (0.7"/2cm thick!)
    - Good image quality for a camera this size
    - Takes several different qualities of video
    - Offers shooting at 1600 ISO (lets you shoot in darker settings)
    - Large view screen (given the size of the camera)
    - Good macro capabilities (focuses down to 5cm)

    Weaknesses:
    - No image stabilization
    - No manual aperture and shutter control
    - The flash is very weak.
    - Like most sub-compact cameras, this one will give you problems with red-eye for flash portraits.
    - As is the case for most ultra-compact cameras, you'll be able to get better image quality in larger cheaper cameras solely due to the optical and sensor compromises inherent in making a camera this small.

It competes against the Nikon Coolpix S50, S50c, S200, and S500, the Fuji F40, and the Casio Exilim EX-Z75, among others. Feature sets are generally the same on most cameras. If you want an image stabilized ultra-compact (if you can afford it, I would advise it), look to the Canon SD850 or SD870 IS (slightly larger than this camera at 1" thick).

I rate this camera a "4" because it is a good camera - It has a reasonable feature set, but it still has its drawbacks. If you can handle a camera 1" thicker, do yourself a favor and get the Canon A570 IS for about the same money and you'll get image stabilization and better image quality. If you need the small size, though, this camera is good and is about as good as you'll get in the price range.

The PowerShot SD1000 is a powerful compact camera with a 7.1 million pixel sensor. More than capable of superior-quality prints at sizes even larger than 13 x 19, the PowerShot SD1000 is great for almost any situation. The small size and high image quality make the PowerShot SD1000 an amazing little package.

To make the SD1000 as user friendly as possible, not only is it incredibly
compact but also utilizes a 2.5-inch LCD screen. This high-
resolution LCD monitor (230,000 pixels) is great because of its large size and incredibly fine detail, but is also viewable even at extreme angles to make previously difficult shooting situations, a “snap”.

Expanded ISO range includes ISO 1600 to better reduce camera shake/camera blur in lower light situations. Also a new auto setting, High ISO Auto, allows the camera to set ISOs up to 1600, if the conditions demand
it, without having to select the ISO manually. These new features make it much easier to get perfect pictures even in darker situations.

The PowerShot SD1000 is made of high class stainless steel, which offers both durability and an attractive look. It has been specifically
designed to have a squared-off look giving it a stylish, and thin profile, but still offer the comfort and ease of use expected of a Canon PowerShot. Also, to make the SD1000 as steamline as posible all of the controls a flush with the camera’s surface. It will be available in two different styles; silver with black accents, and all silver.

In order to make your picture taking experience the best that it could be, the shooting modes on the SD1000 have been re-organized. At the touch of a button you have access to all the standard shooting modes; Auto, Camera Manual, Digital Macro, Portrait, Night Snapshot, Color Accent, Color Swap, Stitch Assist, and Movie. You also can access the Special Scene modes; Kids & Pets, Indoors, Foliage, Snow, Beach, Fireworks, Aquarium, and Underwater.

I was used to my olympus dslr. I tried a few point and shoot cameras, looking for one that took the fastest photo, as my dslr would take quick shots. However, I found that quick means nothing if the picture quality is lacking. The only compact camera I have been happy with is the canon sd1000, I'm beyond happy with it. This camera is not only easy to use, but it also inspires creativity! The picture quality is amazing! I've been using the canon sd1000 even more than my dslr! The quality is the same! And the macro is AMAZING! I work in camera sales and am an active amature photographer: I would highly reccommend this camera to anyone! This camera is also durable. I've dropped it on concrete and blacktop twice, and it is only lightly scratched! On top of all this, it is very sleek and light yet easy to hold! If you are looking for a great camera, take my researched and experimented advice, and purchase this camera! And have an inspired and enjoyable time taking pictures!!! :)

This is one of the best digital camera out in the market. This camera is very simple to use than my other cameras. It is very small compared to a DSLR camera. Really if you are new to photography and have $250 to fork out, I would choose this one with no hesitation. Press the button once, you get the perfect picture. You can take macro pictures really close and does not blur out. Like an inch. This camera is better than DSLR in macro shots. It also has a great battery. Although if you use it alot it dies quick, but thats ok because it takes less than a hour to charge. One problem, I cant find the battery indicator, and you have to hold down the center button to see the time. At 220, this camera is a steal because it is definitely comparable to DSLR quality. I have a 2GB SD card and it holds 4000 pictures and about 30 min or so of video. This also takes very good videos. Five Star all the way!!

This is a great point and shoot camera if you're looking for something inexpensive but good quality. I use this camera to take all of my ebay item pictures and it really does a great job, especially outside with no flash. This camera also takes phenomenal close ups and has a number of features that I havent even explored yet. It also takes killer videos. It's very small and can fit easily into your pocket or purse.
