Canon PowerShot A590 IS 8.0 Megapixel

I bought this camera for my boyfriend's mom after she fell in love with my Canon PowerShot A640. She liked mine because its a little bigger than the tiny point-and-shoots, and she loved the video feature. However, there were quite a few features I knew she would never use, including the vari-angle LCD. So my boyfriend and I opted for the A590 which is a step down from the A640. It doesn't have the hinged LCD screen, and its 8X mega pixels as opposed to the 10x of my camera, plus it is significantly less expensive. I played around with the A590 when it arrived in the mail, and I REALLY like it. As far as the design goes, I actually prefer the smaller A590 to my bulky A640--its easier to hold and just feels better in the hand. Also, the setting menus are easy to navigate and the wheel at the top of the camera makes it super-easy to switch from one setting to another. This camera is priced great, and offers lots of neat features while still remaining accessible to the amateur photographer.

Bought this camera basically for 4 reasons: to replace a great, but older digital camera which was 1) heavy, 2) had no zoom feature, 3) had low megapixal, and 4) used the harder-to-find and phasing-out larger and scratch-vulnerable cardreader.

I bought the Cannon PowerShot A590 is a great camera: came with substantial software package, a bonus 2MB card reader (compared to the standard 512), so you can snap 100s of extra, high-quality photos; it's compact, with a carrying case which holds any extras you might need, like extra batteries. Fantastic zoom, easy to understand operation, which also walks you through instruction right on the LED readout, so you don't need to carry the instructions, 8 megapixel feature equals better standard shots at much larger size, which is great for editing, leaving cropping options better (as you can lose lots of unnecessary background to get the main feature of your shot nice and close, without having to resize, which often causes blurring). Light-weight. Snaps multiple shots almost instantly, which is wonderful for moving targets and action shots. Features choices for many types of layouts, including wide-angle horizontal for wide angle viewing on TV or wide PC screens, like cinema format. Was able to use right out of the box, with initial set-up from box to use in less than 5 minutes. Came with mini tripod, cleaning products, multi-format card reader USB; cable for loading pics directly from camera to PC, and other extras.

The only 2 drawbacks, for me personally, were 1) the software for cardreader only had disk only for old Windows 98 (which made the cardreader useless for my purposes); and 2) uses 2 AA-batteries (which I prefer a rechargable battery, personally).

Otherwise, highly recommend this camera. Great value for a fine camera!

I have a degree in Fine Arts Photography and am used to working with high-end cameras. After thorough research, I bought the Canon A590 as a daily simple photo camera. This camera is loaded with practical features. The image stabilizer, ease of use and different shooting modes is amazing for the price. I like everything about it except for two features. There is a short lag time in taking a picture so action shots are not recommended with it. However, for regular portraits and simple candid shots, it is a dream. The pixel quality is more than most people will need. The photo quality is excellent up to 11" by 16" images. The camera readout is very easy to see. The functions are easy to navigate and change. The flash is a bit strong for some shots, but inexpensive basic photo editing software can fix it. The body is small enough to put in a purse, yet the feel is reminicent of a small SLR body. Canon means quality to me and this camera exemplifies it for the price. Powered by standard AA batteries is a real plus. Loading shots into a computer, printer or CD is a breeze. You get quite alot of camera for the very low price. I consider this camera to be a "best buy" for the price range.

Purchased camera for trip to Walt Disney World. I only had a couple of days to get use to the camera before our trip. I really didn't need to because when in doubt there is a setting the is called and Easy setting. It worked for practically everything! I got great pictures without thinking and it was small enough to fit in my pocket. I chose to get disposable batteries and not recharable ones, I just made sure to have plenty while at the parks because I took alot of pictures. Would diffently purchase this camera again.

this is a very nice easy to use camera that takes great pictures--nice size display clear and crisp photo review. fits hand nice. beats all the others i have tried.

I like that the settings are very self explanitory, wont buy anything but a canon, Love IT! It is very user friendly, it however is not as compact as other digital cameras, but it takes excellent pictures and is a great buy for a first time camera user or an experienced camera user.

User friendly, nice large viewing screen, excellent picture quality, very good zoom equal to 35-140. The only downside is the camera is very slippery in the hand. It ould be easy to drop if you are not careful. Be sure to use the strap when handling.

I love this camera, and have not one bad thing to say about it. It's convinient and easy to use. Super clean and clear pictures, love the tilt feature on the camera too!

Like the small size and ease of controls plus the batteries last a very long time. Very little delay time between pictures. Would definitely reccomend.

This camera rocks my world. What a beautiful piece of equipment! From point and shoot to total manual, and everything in between. Also the only camera at this price that gives me custom timer--set the delay AND the number of shots it will take from one press of the shutter button.

Great features. Good value. Good battery life that can be extended by being able to use the view finder which very few cameras in this price range have. Maybe too many features for someone looking for just a simple point N shoot but if you leave it on "Auto" even my wife can use it. Good close up pics.

I love the easy button on this camera. It's a great value. It takes wonderful photos. I can take photos of my hard to photograph jewelry and they are true to color and crisp and clear. It's light weight and an all around good camera. I had a Canon A630 which was bulky, expensive, hard to understand and stopped working after one year. This one is so much better. Maybe, because it was not made in China?

I was very pleased with the camera. I don't have alot of time to mess around with settings and this allows you to just point and click. There is a quite a delay from the time that you click the shutter to when the photo is taken but after a few shots I could adjust for it. I have not had any problems with it. I should have read the instructions when I first got it instead of just taking off with it because I needed to change the settings to allow for more photos to be taken...my mistake. Since then, I have read up on how to use the camera and it works great. Couldn't be happier. Even bought another one for my daughter.

This camera is very bulky and too large to really go into your pocket, but the quality of the photos, along with the price, make this a very good camera. It is very easy to use. I like the fact that it has a viewfinder and LCD screen. No redeye photos.

If you don't mind having a large camera in your pocket, then this is a good choice.

The only problem with this model is that "regular" alkaline batteries wont last more than 5 shots. It is not the cameras fault. I recommend Rayovac Hybrid Batteries. Other than that, this is a perfect little camera. I love how it feels bulky and does not feel like a $5 piece of trash. Most favorite part is that this model still has the classic viewfinder. Have you ever tried taking pictures in the middle of the day without a viewfinder? NOT FUN!

Great camera, easy to operate. Batterys are normal 2 AA wich last a long time and can be purahsed anywhere. I dicided to buy bacause I own an earleir model.
This one has excellent screen for viewing and editing pictures. Movies taken from this camera are also exceelent. My son and daughter each own one.
I highly reccomed it.

Well, what can I say....this camera is a dream to take pictures with....easy to understand....easy to operate....easy to download pics....and small size to boot!!!!!!!

I read lots of camera reviews (including Consumer Reports, and user ratings), prior to making my purchase.....and this was the only camera that didn't have any negative comments!!!!!!

Last but not least, the price is simply fantastic at just over $100 for a quality Canon camera! I hope they don't come to their senses and raise the price....LOL

Good value for the money and seem to be a good camera and easy to use. Clean pictures and downloads easy. One thing I would say all cameras should be coming with a 2 Gig memory card by now with no added cost to the consumer.

Top rated digital camera, have purchased Canon cameras in the past and never had a problem. This particular model is easy to use, clear, high quality photos that I use on my eBay listings. Bought because of excellent price, condition and seller reputation.
