EXCELLENT ITEM, CHEAP INK AND GOOD QUALITY

Simple, quick, easy to use, recent model. This is the last "cheap ink" model made by Canon. The moron who included his personal experience with ink failed to realize that this forum is to explain the pros and cons of the item, not the sellers shipping practices. Or personal buying issues. This is to describe the item and the quality of the item.
I have 2 of these and looking to buy a 3rd and 4th. The ink costs 2 bucks a cartridge. uh, deal or no deal?
Oh and forgot to mention prints great photo quality pictures as well in a decent ppm timeframe.
Only thing missing is the fax machine and scanner. But for a simple, cheap printer, you cannot go wrong here. Canon software is both easy to use and install and found for free on their website. I cannot ask for more.

I chose this model because of the small size. It's smaller than the other model of Canon PIXMA printers. It is excellent. I could not be happier.

  WARNING - NO REPLACEMENT PARTS!
Review created: 02/07/07
by:
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

Only a Good rating because ... I bought an iP1500 new directly from Canon in 2005 for $50 and loved it. However, when you get the message that your waste ink absorber is getting full, start shopping for a new printer. The final message that the waste ink absorber IS full with the instruction to replace it is the death knell because Canon does not have this replacement part (from Canon service dept. to my ears) and neither do their authorized service repair places. Even if they did have it, this is not a consumer replaceable part, either.

I guess 2 years use is ok for the price. I went back to Canon for my new iP4200 which the authorized service repair person suggested. Got it from the Canon eStore for $59.99 this week ... it's marked way down because they have since come out with the iP4300.

Now what am I going to do with the 10 black and 2 color ip1500 ink cartridges I have?? I guess I'll have to list 'em on eBay!

WASTE TANK FULL ERROR - Easy Fix
Review created: 11/09/08(updated 02/25/09)
4 of 4 people found this review helpful.

I've owned two of these printers and I love them, because they print well and the ink is the least expensive of any I've ever bought. When after some time of use, it just quits printing or you get the WASTE TANK FULL ERROR, just open the front like you're going to change cartridges and unplug the power cord as soon the the tanks move all the way to the left. That allows access to the little tank that is filling up under the cartridges. There are two little filters that you can remove with a pair of tweezers. They are very small, about 1/4" X 1/2". Be careful not to drop them as they will be full of ink. Very carefully rinse them under cool water till they are white again. Place on tissue to dry. While they are drying, take an absorbent tissue and gently press into the well and hold. This pulls more ink our of the well. Once the filters are dry, place them back in their appropriate side of the well, (one is larger than the other) and plug your printer back in. Works everytime!

  Inkjet Printer
Review created: 10/04/06

I want the Canon Pixma iP1500 Inkjet Photo Printer, because the one I had never did print very well, and the ink was very expensive. My boss had the Canon printer and I liked it, and also the cost of the ink is extremely reasonable. We have really like the printer. It is just what we needed. We don't do a whole lot of printing or fancy printing so it is just right.

Inkjet Printers - A Love / Hate Relationship
Review created: 09/01/06
3 of 7 people found this review helpful.

Inkjet printers could be (and in some cases have been) given away free because the printer companies make substantial profits just from the sale of inkjet cartridges. This basic premise is my guide for buying new inkjet printers.

I've resolved the cartridge dilemma by (1) finding a combination of the most dependable printer and the least expensive ink cartridge, then (2) I stock up on a few OEM cartridges and finally (3) I purchase cartridge refill kits. These kits contain a small drill bit (for drilling a hole in the cartridge to insert new ink), a syringe (for inserting the ink into the cartridge), and a bottle of the correct ink for the cartridge. In fact, you don't even need to buy the kit since any small drill bit will work and 5cc syringes are available inexpensively from your local drug store.

When buying a new printer, I search for one that uses the same exact ink cartridges as the printer I already have. In the instant case, I've got a Canon i450, which has served me well, but is beginning to have paper feed problems. So I went eBay shopping and in a very short time found the above Canon PIXMA iP1500, which is a newer model printer but uses the same print head, cartridges and ink as the i450. That way all my supplies continue to be usable.

I also never use color cartridges. They are a very expensive proposition and anything I want printed in color, I just upload to any one of a number of online businesses that will print your digital photos in excellent quality for very cheap. I generally use Wal-Mart which does good quality work inexpensively: Under $3 for an 8x10 photo and around 25 cents for a 4x6 print.

But regarding the printers, I purchased both the Canon i450 and the Pixma iP 1500 on eBay and have been very happy with both of them. Canon is a good name and fairly dependable. Of course other brands are good as well (Epson, Brother, etc.) but I'll stay with Canon for the time being because it's what I know and what I've found dependable and easy on my wallet.

This was poorly packaged and the ink cartridges had been left inside.
This caused the ink to be all over the inside of the printer. I have yet to remove all of the excess ink from the rollers, etc.

CANON PIXMA 1500-A PRINTER FOR ALL YOUR PRINTING NEEDS

THIS IS PROBABLY THE BEST PRINTER I HAVE EVER PURCHASED! NOT ONLY ARE THE CARTRIDGES CHEAP AND EASY TO INSTALL, BUT THE PRINT QUALITY IS AWESOME! I HAVE USED THIS PRINTER FOR DAY TO DAY PRINTING, AS WELL AS PRINTING PICTURES. THE QUALITY OF THE PICTURES IS TRULY INCREDIBLE, AND IT IS HARD FOR SOME TO BELIEVE I DID NOT GET THE PICTURES DONE AT A PROFESSIONAL PRINT LAB. THE PRINTER DISC DOES USE QUITE A BIT OF SPACE, BUT THAT IS SO YOU CAN USE ALL OF IT'S GREAT PROPERTIES. THIS PRINTER IS HARD TO FIND, BUT SEEMS TO BE READILY AVAILABLE ON E-BAY. SO IF YOU ARE LOOKING FOR AN EXCELLENT PHOTO PRINTER, WITH EASY USE AND RELIABILITY, THIS IS YOUR PRINTER!

  WOW! I love Canon printers.

I love the thrift store bargains.
I spotted one at a thrift store for $4,after seeing that they are selling for a decent price,I decided to buy it.(Dont tell my wife,my workshop is already overflowing)The print driver showed the carts were empty,a few drops of ink in each color(probably less than $2 in refill ink)

WOW perfect nozzle check without even running a cleaning cycle.

I have revived quite a few printers and that is a rare case.

People just dont know what they are throwing away.

Prints real nice on some bargain photo paper I bought awhile ago that my other printers cannot print on.

Now I see why the high selling price for this beauty.

Definitely a winner.

I purchased this printer to go with an older iMac, running OS 9. It installed well, but came with a defective print head. An email to Canon customer service, and they overnight expressed me a new one. Good response for a printer that has been out of production for a few years. I have had excellent experience with Canon printers over the years.

Good print quality and very good prices on ink cartridges. I would prefer a tray for paper as it prints out. For a cheap priced printer the Canon Pixma 1500 is a good deal. I highly recommend it.Good to excellent overall.

BEWARE,YES. IT IS A GREAT PRINTER, BUT...

I've owned 5 of them. (no, not all at the same time.) I also had the dreaded "WASTE TANK FULL ERROR" If you call Canon they will tell you the printer is dead and cannot be fixed. I got tired of battling on the E-Bay auctions to buy another at $100 or more. I just found a Brother MFC 230.
It has a scanner and fax, I found it on sale at Office Depot for $69.99. There are generic inks available here on e-bay. The ink tanks are only a little more expensive (not much) and they are larger so they last longer than the Canon inks. And here is the best part. The Brother machine will not give you the "WASTE TANK ERROR" problem.
Plus the generic inks for it are safe and will not kill your printer the way that the generics for Epson's, etc will.

  IT CAN BE FIXED
Review created: 01/08/08
by:
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I purchased my iP1500 in October 2004 to use on a sailboat while we were living in the Bahamas. Bought it because it was inexpensive and I wouldn't mind if it didn't survive in a salt air environment. I printed approximately 60 reams of paper - black and color. I am still using the printer today. Have had my share of problems - clogged print head (soak in hot water, about .5" - do not get contacts wet - keep soaking until water runs clear) dry well and reinstall. Does the trick. Other problem was "waste ink tank error". Knew it was a goner. I found another ip1500 and purchased it. While waiting for it to arrive, I did some research on-line and found this website "http://forums.techarp.com/technical-support/20091-canon-ip1500-printer-waste-ink-error-tank-error.html" Did what it said and totally solved the problem. Just follow the directions - no long to print here. Now I'll have two and won't trade either of them for any 4-in-1. Good luck.
