I have owned 4 Canon Rebel camera's. The original Rebel that I bought in 1992, a Rebel Xs, Rebel Ti, and my newest the Digital Rebel 300D. I love these camera's and have never had any problems with any of them with years of use. The original Rebel has been in 14 different countries, been dropped many, many times and has even seen combat in the Balkins. Heck, I even had my finger through the shutter (accident of course) and the camera still works today, despite having plenty of scars and needing tape to keep the battery door on. I have had 6 canon lenses and they all work great, better than the off-brand lenses that I bought for value. I trust anything with the Canon name on it to be of the best quality and durability!

  Great Lightweight Camera LOADED w/Features!
Review created: 06/07/08
7 of 7 people found this review helpful.

The Rebel X is a very lightweight, feature packed camera. Like other EOS series cameras, this can very easily be used in 'full auto' mode - where the camera can easily be used as a "Point & Shoot" camera. But this 35mm camera & lens combo produce MUCH better results than most P&S cameras, AND this one has the ability to add all sorts of lenses, as well as filters, powerful flash units, etc.

While the "full Auto" mode makes it VERY easy to take nice photos, I also like the ability to select shutter speeds and/or aperture size. I can choose a fast shutter speed to stop action (or a slow speed to show 'movement', eg: blurred streams) and the camera sets the corresponding aperture for proper exposure. I can also choose 'aperture' mode to set that, which determines depth of field - to either blur out the background (when it might be distracting) or to keep background details in focus, when it's important or adds to my photo). All of the setting are VERY easy to use and figure out.

The one thing to consider - this model does NOT have a built in flash (there are LOTS of Canon EOS models that DO offer this feature) I use this camera mostly outdoors, and the light weight and compact size make it easy to carry in a backpack or 'waist' bag while hiking around. For indoor use, you will need to add a flash, but I found that pretty much any 'accessory' flash is a lot nicer than the built in flash offered on most models. So, when I need the flash, I carry it, when I don't I save the weight of toting one around.

All in all, this is an excellent camera, and with the proliferation of digital cameras, these nice, 35mm film cameras are a real bargain! For what it's worth, I also have a digital, but the photos from this cameras are superior in most ways, and I don't have to mess with printing. For me, developing film & getting prints is less expensive and WAY less hassle than printing at home. (inks & paper get expensive!)

Plus, I frequently get CD's of my photos when I get the film processed (I usually use Costco or Wal-Mart because they're convenient, but most places offer a CD of your photos for $2-5/roll) The CD images are handy for e-mailing and posting on web sites... and for just a few $$s, I save myself the hassle of scanning!

Back to the camera - if you want a VERY capable, versatile, lightweight camera which is super easy to use, the Canon EOS series are great! And, this camera also makes it very easy (& intuitive) when you want to get more creative, and take control of the exposure settings. Plus... the Rebel X can be found pretty cheap! :-)

Easiest camera I have ever had

My son had a Canon EOS Rebel X Camera and used it for a photography class. We used it when we went on vacation and fell in love with it. We call it our "PHD" camera. That stands for "push here dummy". It does everything for you. You push the button. First it beeps to let you know that the picture is focused. It then takes the picture and advances the film. How easy is that? Every last picture is clear and the definition is wonderful. It is the best camera we have ever had.

Actually this camera was part of a package auction, I was mainly interested in the flash that came with it.
I had dusted off my old FTQL (Bought in Vietnam in 1968) and needed a flash attachment.
As it turned out this Rebel is quite pleasing to use, and the FTQL is "back in the bag". I really like the auto-focus. The "beep" escapes me due to a hearing loss, but one can definitely see the picture come into focus. Now all I have to do is watch the auctions for some lenses, although the one that came with it is quite adequate for most of what I photograph.
I only searched under Canon because I have always liked the products they have and the name just means "great camera" to me. Since having such a great experience with eBay, I have subsequently searched other brands and photo equipment. (also my first review, sorry for the awkwardness)

I am a photography teacher at our local high school, and we use Canon EOS Rebels for the classes. I can only afford to buy the cameras on e-bay, due to the retail costs of SLR cameras. I have only been bitten once after buying 9 cameras. I enjoy e-bay and what it has to offer. Jim

I got my Canon Rebel about 13 years ago, the main thing I absolutely love about it... when you load the film it pulls all the film out and as you take pictures, it puts it back in the film cartridge protecting the shots you take from accidental exposure!!! I LOVE THAT! My friend has paid top dollar for a couple Nikons and they dont do that! such a simple thing that is an important feature to me. I also love the quality pics I have taken and experimented with different settings... I have taken night sky shots, multiple image, etc...all easy to do and turned out awesome! I love this camera!

  Canon EOS Rebel X

The Rebel X is a great 35mm SLR because of its light weight, ease of use, and overall capabilities. It's a good camera for learning the basics of photography, yet it has additional features for the more advanced effects. The Rebel X makes an excellent backup body for those now shooting with Canon digital SLRs because virtually all of the Canon EOS lenses are interchangeable. This is one camera that every Canon collector should have.

This paticular camera is one of the best ever made,in my opinion for portrait pictures. It is also great on the sports mode. I owned two of them for a long time before going to digital, one for color and one for black and white, because i took a lot of portrait pictures of my kids and they are all involved in sports. I absolutely loved this camera. The pictures were very sharp and very rarely did i have a blurred pic due to camera shake.

I ordered a camera because of the reputation of the Canon 35mm Rebel. I am pleased with the purchase and use it on a regular basis. I did not like the fact that I did not get a lens but I had several which were compatible so there were no problems with me using it right away. It takes great pictures. !!!

First of all, the Canon Brand means quality to me. I have owned many Canon cameras, and this one, like the others, is a joy to use. The camera body is always built well, and the optics are excellent. I have never had to repair any of my Canon cameras. This particular camera is simple and easy to use.

  Rebel Xs

I got the Rebel Xs as I wanted to move up to AF due to my eyes not being what they used to be. The camera is light-weight, so it isn't a pain in the neck (so to speak) to carry for long periods, small enough to be almost unnoticed when doing candids, but not so much that it's hard to hold. It focuses quickly, and takes great photos. Great camera!

Going out of style but with Pride
Review created: 08/16/06

I have owned this Canon EOS Rebel For some time now and I still think it takes great pictures, or maybe its me that is taking great pictures. But the tool, that is the camera has NEVER failed me once. It has been a die hard, long living, best endoured camera through countless trips and events, it has seen a lot in its time and it is still running like the day I got it.
I will always be a film photographyer and will always use Canon as my FIRST choice in brand. Film photography maybe going out of style for some, but I think, no matter what the world comes to, That this camera, or all Canon EOS style cameras will stay strong for a long time. It has a lot to offer and it works great, even when I have bad judgment.

My old canon eos has ceased to work, otherwise known in most languages, as broken. I was perusing Ebay and thought to myself, mainly because no one was in the room and if I were to talk out loud, I might be taken as somewhat of a fruitcake. Anyway, I digress, I saw this marvelous camera on Ebay and I said again, to myself, I must have it. I bid as I normally do and lo and behold, I won the auction. A few days later, this nice man in uniform, delivered my package. I was very excited, as I don't get many visitors since the accident with the nuns, anyway, I opened the package after I told the nice man thank you and so long, anything else would have been rude. He wouldn't stay, something about work and the fact that neighbors were watching. What a lovely packing job the seller used, it reminded me of my Aunt Emma's Christmas presents, except hers would smell of pine sol. The camera was just as it appeared in the Ebay picture, except larger and I could actually hold it. It was just as I had hoped. I intend to use it alot and next time I won't eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches next to my ant farm...
many Thanks

I bought this Canon EOS Rebel X Film Camera for my son to use for his Photography class. The camera qualifications that the students need are all in this package. Just what the instructor wanted. This camera came with everything it said on the description and then some. Very clean and well taken care of. I like the fact that it is a Canon and Canon has a great reputation. It will be easy to have serviced if we ever should need to have.
This camera came with a very nice carrying bag also. The manual and papers are all with it.

I have a couple of digital cameras but I learned on a 35mm. It seems to me the true satisfaction you get in your pleasures is how hard you work at it. The 35mm camera takes a little more feeling and persistence, so it makes you feel more complete with the final result.
