  Canon T1i, use only fastest sdhc cards or lose video

Great camera, I'm sure you can read all the spec and features elsewhere. I will concentrate on thing they don't tell you.

Some Class 6 SDHC cards are NOT fast enough to do video on this camera. My experience specifically KINGSTON class 6 is too slow. IF you see the video buffer bar at the right of the screen show up, then your memory is too slow. Once that bar reaches 5 the camera will, without warning or beeps, stop recording. You will miss the whatever happens after that. You will then have to restart recording, it will not do so automatically. You clip will abruptly end at the most inopportune time.

SanDisk Extreme III class 6 is quite fast enough in my testing.
I have been told that the transcend class 6 16GB is good too.

I have tested my T1i for memory usage in video mode, here are the results using a Sandisk 8 Gig Extreme III:

T1i Video Memory Usage Rates for a 1 minute file.

1080 mode 282 MB
720 mode 194 MB
480 mode 131MB

Following is for 5 minute file
1080 = 1,383 MB
720 = 988 MB
480 = 638

Any 1 clip can be 4GB max, so the following is an approximate max clip length

1080 about 14 minutes
720 about 20 minutes
480 about 30 minutes

These figures are approximate as the content of the video will affect the compression and amount of memory actually used but these are pretty close to an average time you should expect. I did a little rounding so these are probably the on the low side you may get a little more time, but not much, maybe a minute.

You can shoot as much video as the card will hold, just any 1 uninterrupted clip cannot be longer than 4 gig.

Shooting Video also eats the battery, buy extras, one Battery per every 8 gig card should be about right.

Still shot Capacity on 8 gig card
Large + RAW =286
Just RAW = 359
Large = 1375
Medium = 2334
Small = 4175
* if you shoot any video mixed with the stills these numbers drop very fast.

If you are going to do Video, and it important at all, I can only recommend the SanDisk 8 gb sdhc extreme III at this point. Just be warned that the video mode is very demanding and picky about the performance of the card, just the class rating is not to be counted on, as I found out the hard way. Some class 4's may work, even class 2's but that buffer bar starts showing up.
DO NOT BUY KINGSTON Class 6, I had 2 of those and lost important video due to their inability to keep up with the camera.

>>>>>>>> Be Safe Buy the Sandisk Extreme III or similar cards that are much faster than the minimum spec/claims of class 6.

This is the perfect SLR for the advanced amateur or a backup for the pro. It's lightweight, reasonably sturdy, easy to use and takes great pix. It's much smaller than the D50/5D so it's no problem carrying around all day. In camera settings allow you to adjust sharpness/saturation/hue/contrast to your liking and the highlight tone priority and auto lighting optimizer works as advertised without noticably degrading the quality. There's even a new CA mode that allows you to adjust two sliders for blurring the background and adjusting the exposure making it easier for the beginner. The new VGA display alone makes the upgrade from my XTi worth it; live view and video is the cherry on top although the auto focus while in those modes is at least 3 times slower than your typical pocket digicam. In live view, you can zoom in on the subject to make sure it's in focus and the 640x480 lcd pays off big.

Grip size is a bit larger than the XTi and the surface is much grippier. There is a dedicated video mode on the dial and live view is easily activated with the print button. There is a tab in the menu where you can place your own items. You can read the numerious positive reviews on the XTi and XSi and know that it only got better.

  Notes on the HD Video Thing
Review created: 05/29/09
by:
28 of 29 people found this review helpful.

As a DSLR that takes wonderfully expected images like all modern day DSLRs do and as one of the very few (currently, but we'll be seeing more) DSLRs that record full resolution HD video (1080 & 720) at the moment, it's a clear 5/5. After all, this is one of Canon's lowest trim DSLRs and it already offers 15 megapixels and HD recording.

But then all of those goodies have been beaten to death in reviews everywhere, so I thought I'll just detail some notes on hands-on experience using VIDEO on this bad boy (firmware 1.0.9). It's quite a new thing with DSLRs and some buyers (new DSLR owners and repeats!) might not be too sure what to expect.

- don't expect HD video quality matching HD video dedicated recorders. There will be the "jello" effect (that is actually the Internet technical term for it!) if you pan too fast. And just don't move too fast (you & subject) since at full 1080, it's only 20FPS, not quite up to specs to avoid choppy video when speed's involved (720 has 30FPS). Dynamic exposure is quite slow and sometimes off.

- manual focus seems like the only real usable method of focusing. Not only does the Liveview contrast detecting focusing really slow, it makes a ton of noise (recorded!) and for a LONG time (back and forth) even on a quick focusing USM lens like the 24-70L. Unless you want to give the viewers a bit of nausea, manual focusing gets you there much faster (and remember manual focusing by eye on the fab screen is fine since the output is not 15MP still image but 1080px in height video, i.e. precision doesn't need to be super exact). One last IMPORTANT point on auto focusing, if you try focusing on something dark where the camera needs more light to be able to find focus, the lens will automatically open the aperture so the camera can see. But then, that means while it is focusing, the video will suddenly become crazily overexposed. No joke. It's a lot like spot metering a backlit object where everything not dark will overexpose.

- the mono sound isn't too bad, a lot like video on a point and shoot/prosumer camera. It's sure no competition to an actual HD video recorder, but hey it does the job more alright than I thought.

- zooming the lens while you shoot does make a sliding sound in your video, depending on how smooth the zoom is on your lens of course. And don't even think about clicking any buttons or turning the wheel. The sound proofing for the on-body controls is quite crap. But then there's really not much you have to/can change on the camera while you're shooting anyways.

- I'm not sure what others are reporting (looking at the other reviews), I have an 8GB PQI class2 SDHC and it hasn't failed in writing speed to lose video bits yet.

- It's actually quite fun.

I know most of my notes are rather negative (point is to inform, right), but to be honest, HD video, especially on a DSLR with interchangeable lenses is really fun. Just think fisheyes! Telephotos! Super narrow depth of field! Tilt-shift lenses! And it's really something when you watch the videos, captured by a PHOTO CAMERA, on your computer monitor and find that at 100%, it's bigger than your screen.. fullscreening the video actually shrinks the video window. Hm.

So maybe it seems like this is just HD slapped on a DLSR for marketing and fuel for the whole gimmick-why-video-on-a-DLSR whine, but really, it's a sign for things to come. Future gens of these love machines will surely be refined due to competition and at the end of it all, we win.

  Canon T1i From Pyxis Camera

This is a great camera. It can be as easy to use as a point and shoot or as custom as a full manual camera. The colors are very accurate and the prints are incredible. If you are wanting to break into the DSL cameras, this is a very nice start for the serious amateur or budget conscious semi-pro user.

I would buy it again if I had to do it over.

Wow, what a camera for the money. I have owned film SLR's before, and they didn't hold a match to this camera. First of all it is so easy to use, but still allows you to be creative when the mood strikes. I have only taken still pictures with it, but am anxious to see what the HD video looks like. The pictures I have taken are stunning. From a simple picture of a rose, to the family dog sitting looking cute. If you are on the fence about a digital SLR, this is it. Dive in and enjoy it, you won't be disatisfied!

Well I won bid on this item and I ended up in a very very rude response from the sales team.

I called them 3 times to make payment but everytime I ended up in dissappointment. 1st time I called and they kept me on hold and never attended the call again. Next day I called and they said there's no warranty coverage and you have to buy 1 yr warranty for $35, and then again put me on hold without processing the payment, and no-one came back. Today I called again and this time they said the warranty amount is $99 for 2 yrs minimum, and again asked me to hold. I kept waiting for 15 min but no one replied back. Sent them couple of mails but no replies.

I'm very very very disppointed with such type of unprofessional and rude behaviour. Will never deal with these people again.

  Great Camera , not so great accesories
Review created: 06/02/09
10 of 11 people found this review helpful.

I basically bought this kit for the camera body, the two
"real" lenses, the memory card and the camera bags. For those thing I will rate it as goo for the accessories and excellent for the camera. The other accessories included, the "make belief" macro and wide angle snap on lenses, tripod, and every thing else I would rate as average and below average. They are extremely cheap and basically use less if you are interested in serious photography. But other than that the price was right and it is an extremely nice camera for the price.

  Camera is great. Kit is not worth the money.
Review created: 07/18/09
6 of 7 people found this review helpful.

I had originally bought this camera at BestBuy. I saw the kit online here at eBay and thought WOW what a great deal. I decided to purchase the kit and return the camera I had got at BestBuy.
I received this kit, and was very happy with the camera but extremely disappointed with the kit.
The lenses and flash are old (not used), but not the current newest lenses and flashes out there.
The backpack that came with the item is cheap and not very sturdy.
I have an older case I had purchased with a previous camera that is much better than what came with this kit.
The filters do not even fit the lenses. Some are too small.
The memory cards are known to be a cheap brand. (Sandisk is the best out there)
I had a very hard time communicating with GetItDigital.
I e-mailed twice and got no response, and then when I tried calling; most of the time their answering machine kicked in. They apparently need more phone lines. I left two or three messages on their voice mail, and you think I got a phone call back? -- haha NO are you kidding me?!

Suggestion for you the buyer: Do not purchase this camera here. I suggest the camera, but please buy it from BestBuy, Amazon, or somewhere other than GetItDigital. Think of this as me saving you money, time, and stress. This kit is not worth the money AT ALL!!!!!!!

Although this was a pretty good deal I didn't get what I expected. I received a phone call after ordering the kit and was asked about insurance etc, this I found very nice however I never got the insurance that I ordered. I sales person that called me seemed very nice and explained the insurance options to me, and convinced me to add insurance to the items in my package and get an extra free 16gb high speed memory card. The memory card was no included so I called, complained and received them a few days later, the insurance however I never got. I complained more than once and was promised to have it by the end of the week. Its now Sunday night and the $200 I spent on insurance I might as well have thrown away.

As far as the camera goes - its awesome, great image quality...

things that are better than the XSi:
ISO speeds can be set to 100 easily,
The Video Function is great - good sound as well (can't be edited in iMovie -needs to be converted to a diff file type)
File type has option for just RAW if you don't want to deal with having jpgs of everything as well.

WARNING::: Photoshop users, in case you didn't know, if you have CS3, expect not to use raw or to upgrade to CS4 because CS3 will not read the raw files from this camera anymore.. I found out the hard way.

  Paid for 6 lenses received ONLY 4 READ AD CAREFULLY
Review created: 09/18/09
by:
5 of 5 people found this review helpful.

GETITDIGITAL does a hard sell on the phone after the initial contract is agreed upon and cannot be revoked according to EBAYS terms.

The accessories listed in the ad are barely adequate for the camera and the buyer is told on the phone that the items are are only "standard" and should be upgraded to "digital" and the memory cards are not high speed are required by the camera for the best pictures. The bait and switch caused me to end up with four lenses after paying for six and then paying additioanl to UPGRADE to the PRESIDENTIAL PACKAGE.

I caution to read every single word carefully. The ad is does not lie, but it is missleading to the buyer.

BTW: The Canon Camera is great. I highly recommend it. I just wish the seller was upfront about the items incld\uded in the package.

All over this pack is best start package I could wish for. I love the fact I got free upgrade from normal sd card to hi speed sd card so I can use the full future of the camera. Only part I dislike it the x2 telephoto lens. It wont work on the 250mm lens when sooming somehow. pictue get blur and like there is a fog or something like that. Im guessing its cos of its just not canon. Over all this is all I wished for so 5 star for me

I bought from this seller because of all the items that were included in his package. Also, he offered free shipping. The camera was just as described and everything arrived packed nicely. I thought the insurance was a little high for shipping though ($35.00). Also, I thought all the extras should have been described in the listing (coupons from Canon and ext. warranty, etc.). Other than that, I would purchase from them again and I was happy with my purchase.

  Canon EOS Rebel T1i 15.1 MP in Kit with extras
Review created: 10/13/09
by:
2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

The camera is great. The very first picture taken was a shot with city lights at night, taken out the car window. The detail was so good using the standard kit lens, not a telephoto, that I was able to blow up the tiny dot which was the moon and see the the major seas/craters on the surface.

The only downfall of the camera is the battery usage when taking movies. I can practically watch the battery charge dropping. On the other hand, when doing regular photos, even using the display a lot, the battery life stays up for a long time compared to other digital cameras I have had (and none of those did movies). I guess I need to get one of the grips that hold extra batteries and can be loaded with 6 common AA batteries to suppliment the more expensive Canon ones. [I have loads of the MetalHydride AA rechargeables, but the terminal voltage on those is lower than alkalines, and may not be enough to run the camera. Will just have to see.]

The dealer in Long Island was very helpful.

The only mild annoyance was that the kit was supposed to have an 8GB memory card and they sent two 4GB ones. There might be occasions when having two separate cards might be useful, so I did not change it, but I had hoped for the single larger one for when I might be taking movies.

Anyway, I would say the transaction was good enough that I will give it an excellant overall rating.
