Canon EOS Elan IIE Film Camera

Excellent rating? You bet. The Elan IIe is a solid 35mm film camera in the top amateur class selling new in it's day in the neighborhood of $700.00.

Made between September of 1995 and October of 2000 The Elan IIe (EOS 50e)was manufactured with a rugged retro style. Aluminum top with hardened plastic body.

The controls are easy to use and with 5 programed settings ranging from auto to close up and 5 creative modes to choose from you can either point and click or set your shots with complete shutter and aperture control.

The only difference between this and the Elan II (EOS 50) is the e, which stands for eye control which is a neat little feature that while you are on the creative side of the dial lets you pick the your auto focus point by looking at it. I don't know how much you will actually put it to use but it's a fun option.

The overall ergonomics and intuitive controls combined with a solid comfortable feel always make the Elan II a great family - field trip - backup camera.

The camera is missing a depth of field mode, that came along later with the Elan 7 (EOS 30). But that's another review.

A picture is only as good as the camera, film, lens, eye and experience of the photographer.

I bought a camera like this one in 1998 and took many hundreds of photos, mostly scenics with some portraits. I bought it as a mid-price camera that had Canon quality built into it. I had used many Canon cameras previously and had been impressed with all of them. I used it extensively for seven years and was always impressed by the quality of its images, its ease of operation, the speed for auto-focusing, and its relative light weight. I had used many different professional 35mm cameras (Topcon, Nikon F, Minolta, and Canon) since 1966 and the Elan IIE was as good as I had used previously and was the first one I had used with auto-focus.

I bought a digital Canon EOS D60 in 2005 and at the time, I gave this camera away to allow a friend to learn photography easily and instantly. It was very easy for that person to use.

Later, I regretted not having it and this year I was in camera store and bought a used one in very good condition. I saw a new one, never used, on EBAY and bought it and both of these take great pictures. I will not part with them.

I highly recommend this camera as an excellent camera for both advanced and beginner users.

I have owned the above mentioned camera for several years. They are excellent cameras for all levels of individauls. The lense on my camera decided to not work in the "auto" mode anymore. After looking at vaious lenses on E-Bay, I ran across this particular camera for sale, minus the lense. I had already purchased a replacement lense for my camera and having seen these camera and at a price that was very rasonable I decided to put in a bid for it. I managed to win and received the camera within a very short time. I have since given my older camera to my son and kept the one I purchased. (It turned out to be in better condtion than the one I owned). Have not used the camera as much as I would like to, I can say that the camera works perfectly as stated by the indivdual who sold it. Extremely happy so far, and it shows me that they are still decent people out there who are honest. I'll be using E-Bay to do alot more of any shopping that I may be doing in the future.

Film camera, very nice images, easy to use, lightweight, all the bells and whistles with ability to go completely manual. Eye-control has made me faster and more able to capture the "decisive moment"

I'd recommend this camera to anyone interested in purchasing a 35mm SLR. A great camera for beginner's or professional's alike. Excellent build quality and large selection of useful lenses make it a winner.

this is by far the best intermediate camera canon has made. it still finds it's way into many professional photographer's camera bags. the features on this camera are near endless but a few i love include the eye control focus which is just fantastic , leader in or leader out rewind is quite handy , whisper drive and rewind are also nice features just to name a few. this camera has everything a pro could want but still easy enough for a novice to use. you wouldn't be dissapointed after getting one of these.

I purchased the Canon EOS Elan IIE Film Camera about two weeks ago and I am impressed with the price I got it at! It seems like an easy camera to use and I am excited to start shooting. I bought it for my daughters in Photography class so we should get good use out of it! Thanks again!

Nice and simple to use camera. Eye focus is easy to setup. QD back battery least for a long time. You can use all your existing EF Lens. Great backup camera. Used camera is fairly inexpensive. You can get a great used one for around $10. You can beat that price.
The only draw back is the 2CR5 battery which is not as common as the AA batteries and is more expensive.

These are some really good cameras, with some features you can't even find on some of the more expensive digicams!!
The main reason I bought it were for the lens's, they are just the right ones for
my EOS Rebel XT, and it came with a very nice bag, and some really good filters!
