This is the least expensive telephoto zoom that Canon makes. For an entry-level telephoto lens it’s not bad, but you may want to consider the other lenses that Canon offers in this focal length range: (street price for new lenses)

The main problem with this lens is the very slow focus system. If you’re used to a DC focus motor on a smaller lens, you will still notice how slow this lens focuses comparatively. If you’re used to an Ultrasonic Motor, this lens is probably not for you. This somewhat limits this lens’s ability to be used in action situations, but for wildlife you probably won’t mind. If you have the aperture stopped down, the background blur (bokeh) is unappealing. The long focal length inherently has a lot of shake, so this lens needs good lighting to keep shutter speeds up, Image Stabilization would of course help. The good news is that the USM version (with the same optics) is only $30 more, well worth it in my mind. If you are serous about using this for sports or low light conditions , you should really consider the 70-300mm IS USM. If you have some serious cash to invest, the Diffractive Optics version is a pro-grade lens.

Bottom line: Yes, it’s the most affordable, but a novice shooter will outgrow its features quickly. There is very little reason not to get the USM version instead, and the only downside to the IS version is cost.

This has become my 1st choice for most of my photograph today. It is one of the best overall lens I have used and it won't break the bank to own. If you are looking for a fast , quite and good overall lens, this is the one.

I bought this lens for an EOS 5D as a general zoom telephoto. It does this well. It is sharp and fast in focusing. I like the feel and weight. Its a value for money lens and I am satisfied with it.

I had been looking for just this lens for my Canon Eos, and the prices were astronomical. This is the real thing and at a much more reasonable price. Delivered on time and in great condition.

I love this zoom lens, it has helped me take better portraits because I dont have to be so close to the subject. I use only canon supplies because they make the best and most trustworthy supplies.

I use this lens in the summer for birds, butterflies and larger mammals (deer, moose, etc.) and it gives me a great picture. Keep in mind it is a 75-300mm not a huge distance can be covered but it does a great job with the normal day to day kind of shot. It's a good addition to anyones arsenal.

The lens was perfect & in the exact condition listed on e-bay. The price was great as was the postage. Even though the package had a small hole punched in it, the lens was packed well enough inside that the lens was not touched. This lens makes it easy to go from one lens to another, the pictures are excellent. The details in the long range photos are crisp and detailed. The auto focus is exact and quick. I am completely happy with this lens and it makes we want to stay in the canon family when I am buying accessories for my Digital Rebel. Excellent product and you can't beat the pictures it takes.

received the ef 75-300mm f/4-5.6 lll lens for my birthday present from my husband and I love it. My kids are usually camera shy but with the extended lens I can catch their picture from a far without them knowing. Hopefully one day I can take a class or two and really learn how to work all the features. I feel like this extended lens is good quality and I would recommend this ebayer to anyone
