Review for Canon EF 70-200 f/2.8 USM Telephoto Lens 7 of 7 people found this review helpful.
This lense is everything that is said about it! It allows a photographer to shoot close-ups without actually being close. The images that are retrieved using this lens are phenomenal! I searched eBay for this lens because my daughter, who is a senior in high school, is a budding photographer and plans to become a trained, professional photographer. She needed this lens to capture those shots that she could not gain from smaller, less powerful lenses. I turned to eBay because I knew I could get great quality at a reasonable price. This is exactly what happened. The lens is just what one would expect to see in a Canon product. The pictures are clear and sharp, a true work of art. Unfortunately, because of the workmanship and parts that must be included in a lens this size, the the Canon 70-200mm is very heavy. Fortunately, the lens that I bought came with a tripod ring! The extra "muscle" used with this lens on your camera is well worth the end result!

Hi! I have personally tried an older Sigma and newer Tokina counterpart and although they all perform very decently when stopped down, I was truly amazed when I shot the Canon IS model wide open. This thing really is as sharp as its reputation foretells you. Certainly all of the aforementioned lenses shoot sharp at F/8 or so, but it is the pictures taken at F/2.8 on the Canon that is stunning and more than acceptable to professionals. Surely it does trail off a bit when you start zooming in, but the drop in performance is so minimal that upon comparison to the Sigma and Tokina, the Canon performs excellent throughout the entire range. With the IS version, the cherries (plural form here!) on top include the IS itself, the USM focusing, and the weatherproofing and excellent external body. If your budget allows it, get this lens and you will not be disappointed.
