Canon EF 1.4x II Lens

Having just switched DSLR systems from the Nikon line, I was more than pleasantly surprised by the quality of this converter. I have used third party converters in the past with mediocre results. The Canon converter gave me tack sharp images as if I were shooting through a primary lens. By utilizing the 1.4X converter in lieu of the 2X model, you only loose one f-stop of light, which allows you to use slower lenses and still obtain sufficient light to get the shot. I used the converter with a Canon 80-400mm EF IS Lens. In the full telephoto setting, to get the best results I had to switch to manual focusing, as the auto focus could not maintain connection with the subject due to the f: 8 aperture. This was a small price to pay for the additional magnification obtained through the use of the converter. I would recommend this to any Canon user looking to get a longer focal range from the lenses already owned. Note: Check with the Canon website to be sure your lens is capable of being used with this accessory. Not all lenses will work, especially wider zoom and fixed lenses.
