Canon BJC 85 InkJet Printer

This is a very durable unit and is good for those who do business on the run. Excellent print quality and no paper feed issues at all. And any ink will work in this unit with no problems and OEM cartridges are inexpensive as compared to the yield.

Now for the only drawback of this unit. The "waste ink" tank is very small and fills up quickly, and when it gets full, all functions of this printer cease. And the worst part is, it is not a consumer serviceable item. The repair MUST be done by a CANON authorized repair facility and I found that the labor is approximately $150 and the part is approximately $79, plus shipping. It costs more to fix it than it costs to buy a new one, and I think that is intentional and deceptive, and a way to FORCE the consumer to buy another unit!

For the reason above, I would never buy another Canon product, or any portable printer. There is no reason they cannot make this waste ink tank readily available and consumer serviceable. No reason at all.

Stay away from this one, and all portables if you are a heavy printer user.

The variation of materials you can use is wonderful and the results are superb. The printer has very high quality and would recommend this product to anyone.

This is a great little printer, its slow but you can't beat the print quality. I brought it because my printer stopped working and its portable. The portability was the big selling point for me. I love it!!

This product is what I needed. My old printer failed, but the A/C adapter and ink supply was still good. The ability to buy a printer, less these items save me time and money. I found a good printer on ebay from a good vender. The rest is history.

the BJC-85 printer is a great little portable printer and though the waste ink tanks fill up rather quickly you can change them yourself ,,
its not that hard there is a seller on ebay that sells the replacment pads for the BJC-85 that comes with a very good instuctional cd and if followed your printer will last for a lot more years than expected have done this job myself and the printers works like new

Do you go on vacation, take your laptop to scout out restaurants and entertainment, then need to print out directions - or a discount coupon? Do you travel for work, and need to print out client copies, maps, or data? Are you a professional musician who needs to print out - at the JOB, yet! - a vocal part in another key, or a transposed alto sax part, because the sax player didn't pack their tenor sax, or the singer has *issues* with the original key? I've been in all 3 situations, and added to all the other things I need to carry, this little printer looks like it is going to start saving my sanity. It's smaller than a 1 1/2 dozen egg carton- not as thick - and prints decent copies. Ink tank is small - but it's easy to carry spares (not much bigger than a Zippo lighter). The electric pack weighs more than this does! You need to swap out the ink for color, and it does not handle many sheets at once - but your not at HOME, remember? I have even used it for the "second computer" station in my house - it's fine. You can get a scanner attachment for it as well, but I do not need that - got the big guy at home. This printer takes NORMAL paper - beware some of the portable printers that only use special thermal paper. Got mine for less than $40, used - I've spent money on things far less useful. Got to judge a music competition in 2 weeks - instead of hand-writing all those comments, I can load in the adjudication sheet, even drag in the stock comments ("Be sure to always use you best breath support.", etc.), add my specifics, and hit print - saving time AND writer's cramp, right there in the studio! If you already carry a laptop, I bet YOU will find great uses for this little cutie, too! Just remember - everything weighs *something*, so get yourself a nice rolling bag for all your stuff!

This printer is without a doubt the best printer ever made, by any company, ever. I bought a bjc-80 in 1998 (Exactly the same printer without usb connection)used it every day on the road for 5 years, not one problem. I went to buy a new one just in case and found that canon quit making them. PANIC... this caused me to go to ebay for the 1st time. The bidding was frantic. No other used printer draws this interest. As with any used product, you never know though.

After purchasing what was descrided as, a "Near Mint Condition" printer and instead receiving a nonworking printer, I have been waiting for over a month now, on Paypal to decided whether this was different than described and whether I wil receive my money back. If that is enough of a problem, Ebay gave my personal email address to this seller, who sent me several vulgar emails because I placed an unfavorable remark on his ratings. This can't get much worse you say. Wrong!!! Imagine now that since this other person has my email address that I receive about 100 spam emails a day, but since the seller used his personal email address to attack me, ebay can do nothing about it.

I love this printer! I travel a lot with my job, and not all places have office facilities available. With this very portable printer, I can print forms, fill them out, and with the IS-12 scanner cartridge, scan and send them via email on the spot. Very convenient. I carried a BJ 80 for almost 10 years, and it finally died. I was glad to find this printer on ebay; it works great.

Great printer for most jobs on the road. Is small and ligfht weight. The only drawback is it lacks a little in graphics resolution. Can become a scanner with additional accessory.

I needed a small, portable printer and nothing else fills the bill as well as this unit. It works well, is light and with the optional cartridge I bopught I dcan use it as a scanner! Double duty with virtually no more weight or volume.

The fact that this is battery powered, very small and reasonably quick all met my criteria for a printer.This also can be used as a scanner. I purchased a new printer in the box and received extra ink cartages and containers to travel with open cartridges. This is a printer tha a c-oworker has been using for some years and had been impressed with the size and reliability, plus the fact that he had seemed to been able to print on anything from plastic to envelopes convinced me of its durability and flexibility, both fantastic attributes.

The unit worked perfectly right out of the box.

Unquestionably the best portable printer ever made. Rugged, ultra-dependable, lowest cost of ownership, and versatile! It can print with high capacity black-only, or full color, or morph into a sheet-fed scanner with a quick cartridge swap. Ink tanks are super easy to refill, just turn them over and drip ink onto the sponge. I travel worldwide, and the inks are available everywhere.
I bought this one to replace my 12-year-old still-working BJC-80 to get the BJC-85's USB capability.
Canon's BJCs are still the best, bar none. Canon's newer i-series don't have the high-capacity black-only and scanning capabilities. Worse, they scratch and crack easily, are heavier, and much less reliable.
This decade-old Canon BJC-85 printer still beats its newer brothers, and don't even think about HP junk.

I would recommend this item with high scores. All systems are properly funtioning. This purchase was made due to my job in which I travel and need a portable printer. At my last assignment, my printer finally broke and I didn't want to go out to buy another $300.00 Printer. I purchased this one and I'm very pleased with the results. Not only do you get a printer, but ink and other accessories as well. When you add up all that is received, it's well over $350. This is a GREAT BUY! Don't let it pass you by.

I am a truck driver and this printer will save me so much time and money. This little printer actually fits right in my computer case with my laptop. I would reccomend this to anyone who needs a printer for travel. It came with the IS-12 scanner cartridge. That is my only dislike. The scanner is not compatible with windows vista and does not have any updates on their website. I mostly wanted the printer so I am very pleased with my purchase!

Small size and light weight - perfect for travel. I was looking for a small printer that I would be able to carry on with my mini laptop. This is a perfect match.

Nice portable printer. Fairly light weight. Replacement batteries not easily found though. Cartridges run out pretty quickly so keep you a spare on hand.
