Finally available in America, Spanish director De La Iglesia's (HIDDEN PLEASURES) 1971 film is a shocking study of human cruelty and man's capacity for violence during the last years of Franco's fascist dictatorship. Slaughterhouse worker Marcos (Parra) acquires a taste for blood after he accidentally kills a man during an altercation. Flowing with an insuppressible rage, the once-sane man succumbs to his most depraved passions, eventually indulging in cannibalism to dispose of his victim's bodies. Not for the squeamish!
