Candle in the Darkness by Lynn N. Austin (2002, Paperback)

I enjoy Lynn Austin's books and, living in the Last Capitol of the Confederacy, I like to read about the Civil War. I am about half way through this one which I bought because I had purcased "A Light to My Path" by Austin at a book warehouse and realized it was the second in a series and "Candle in the Darkness was the first in the series.

IF you have any interest in history, esp the Civil War, this book brings it alive in its characters and their feelings.
I highly recommend reading it. I'm going to order some more of Lynn's books too!

Lynn Austin has become one of my favorite authors. She wrote three books that took place around the time of the civil war in the US, and "Candle in the Darkness" is one of them. All three of these books were hard to put down, but I believe this one was my favorite. It tells the tale of a Southern woman whose father owned slaves. After her mother's death, she was forced to live in the North for a few years. While she was there, she came to believe slavery was wrong. When it came time to move back home in the South, she tried to put her convictions into action and found herself having to make some tough decisions. I would highly recommend this book to anyone. This historical fiction is well written and will captivate the reader, compelling him/her to read long into the night!

Book was exactly what I ordered. I needed it to complete the three book set which I thought was a wonderful read! Book came in timely manner and was in good condition.

Very touching book. Her other books are great also. Set of three books that are all very good. Gives some different insight to the Civil War.

What did I love about it? Everything! This book and the series it is part of are wonderful, fabulous and nearly perfect!

It is spiritually uplifting, historically accurate and it draws the reader right into the Civil war!
The book provides wonderful insight in what this woman's life was.

I dislike the fact that it ended, but alas, every book must come to a close. :)
