Candide (DVD, 2005)

I rented Candide and loved it. Kristin Chenoweth and Patty Lupone were both incredible! The songs were funny and all the characters were great. The guy who played Candide was clearly a singer not an actor but still, a wonderful show. Definitely one to watch without the kids. Enjoy!

What's NOT to like? ...Lenard Bernstein at his very best! Incredible performances by Kristin Chenoweth (sings like an angel) and Patti LuPone, well, what else can one say except "She's the BEST!" The music is gorgeous...this is NOT a stuffy opera...it's very funny!...AND it's in English! I NEVER tire of the music!

I never thought I'd find a musical I liked...until I saw Candide. The cast is astounding, the music amazing, and the sexual jokes hilarious! Kristen Chenoweth shows off her stuff in "Glitter and Be Gay" with ridiculous writing. And who did that? My favorite Broadway composer, Leonard Bernstein. That man is amazing, as displayed in Candide. The music is catchy and fun!

The other great thing about Candide is the set up. I love how the orchestra, choir, and cast are all integrated into the musical, not seperated as I usually see. This is a great DVD to buy, especially if you're not looking for a boring performance about something with "deeper meaning". This is truly a masterpiece and something that everyone can enjoy.

This was my first operetta and I absolutely loved it. I first borrowed it from my library and I liked it so much that I bought it. It is so funny and heart warming that I think that anyone who watches it will love it. Kristin Chenoweth is a goddess and it shows in everything she does.
