Camping and Wilderness Survival by Paul Tawrell (1996, Paperback)

The book ia full of brief facts (sometimes 30 words and a sketch of the topic about many topics, from knots to what not to eat. CONS: The book lacks specific details to with the material covered. EX: The how to's of spearing a fish are lacking bit the how to make a spear is covered. The book jumps around alot, and you find info a topic in many chapters.
The book tries to cover too much ground. How to survive covers many pages about being in a Desert, the artic , the jungle ... The black and white sketches of the edible plants are not in color, nor is the color of the blossoms or fruit/berries to look for.
The book however has 30-40 pages of useful how to's.

Full of information and pictures. It is wonderful for us to take on a trip and point out to our kids about animals, plants and survival skills. We like the book.

I had this book 10 years ago and lost it somewhere when I moved, I was so excited to get to buy another copy on ebay. This book has so much helpful information from how to identify poisonous plants, what to do in the wilderness with first aid, how to make fire, how to build shelter, it helps you identify animals in the wild and how to tie different knots. There isn't anything that isn't in this book that you would need to know to survive in the wilderness. This is just an overall AWESOME and very functional book!!!

Really good book. Great primer for those that are looking to get deeper into woodsmanship. It is not however the end all to becoming an expert outdoorsman. If expert is the desire then further hands on and formal training experience is required.

This book should be considered an encyclopedia of survival information. It is jam packed with everything one could ever need to know about all outdoor situations in every climate. I purchased this book to assist my family with camping skills and emergency tactics, at the campsite, hiking, and in my own backyard. It has illustrative pictures for every aspect and I find it fascinating to skim through.

Most of the info is timeless. Some things in the book are out of date, but could still save your life. No info on GPS.
