Camelot (DVD, 1997, Special Edition)

Unlike other versions of the myth of King Arthur, this musical gives real insight into the thoughts and feelings of the mighty king. It chronicles his dilemmas and excellently displays the schism that tears Camelot apart. It also does an excellent job of showing the various cultures of the characters involved in the story - such as Mordred being a Scotsman as evidenced by his tartan, and Lancelot du Lac being portrayed quite definitively as a Frenchman. In addition, some of the musical numbers are catchy and one is even humorous - Lancelot sings as he rides to Camelot about how he is the best knight. The question is posed as to who is the best knight, to which Lancelot proudly belts out time and time again, "C'est moi, c'est moi!" - meaning in French, "It's me, it's me!" We see Queen Guinevere being played excellently by Vanessa Redgrave, who expertly plays out the queen's vanity, but also her love and insight. This portrayal is only to be outdone by Richard Harris's stirring portrayal of King Arthur, delving into the king's psyche and heart. In short, this is an excellent musical that the whole family can enjoy.

Do movies really even gt better than this one! Richard Harris' King Arthur is everything it should be. When realizes that Lance and Genny have betrayed him, the look on his face is the most heart breaking moment in film history. When he first meets Genny and she realizes he is the King, and she first rejects him makes one want to jump through the screen and just hold him. Then at the end when he finally understands that there is still some good in what has happened and he comes alive again is the feel good ending of every good movie, and every good story. Long live the memory or King Arthur, and Richard Harris!! This DVD also has many facts of who King Arthur might have been, and talks of the legend and the Knights of the Round Table. Plus fotage from the world premier of this movie, with interviews from the cast and creators. There is also some behind the sceens footage that is entertaining to say the very least. Enjoy!

if you were born before 1970, You will remember these songs as being part of your childhood. This was the play that President Kennedy said he likened for his 1000 days in office too. I watched it with my 83 year old father and my 17 year old son and we all enjoyed it.

First saw this musical when it came out. All the music and actors captured my heart. When going down memory lane with a friend this musical was brought up and rekindled my desire to relive the magic.

I am updating my VHS tapes to DVD. This seller was very good with communication and price. I would recommend buying DVD's on Ebay.

Great old movie with great actors and musical score. Although the book version is a little different, this screen adaptation was worth seeing.

In my opinion, this is one of the best muscicals ever made and to see Richard Harris in his prime a true delight.

I've been looking for this movie in the DVD format for a while. It's on old classic and one of my favorites. If you like singing, a love story, fighting, laughing, crying then this movie is for you.

They don't make movies like this in today's time.

The DVD format is so much clearer than VHS and this movie's scenery is worth it.

One of my all time favourite musicals which therefore I had to replace with DVD since VHS is quickly becoming extinct (besides I like DVD more because they quite often have subtitles and extra footage, etc. I've raised my siblings, my children, now my grandchildren and some day (Godwilling) my great grandchildren on movies-particularly musicals-and I'm obsessive about always having to hand 'just the right movie for the right ocassion' therefore I am thrilled to find places where I can purchase them easily for a reasonable price and the people I have dealth with have been courteous, prompt and wonderful with the exception of the postal service whom....even though I gave two weeks notice...it seems still has to reroute the mail to Boise and therefore forwarded mail MUST take at least ten days! For that annoyance I blame noone but the US Government service. Thank you, thank you for wonderful products...I'll be purchasing again later. SG Gale

Richard Harris IS King Arthur. There can be no other. He and Vanessa Redgrave give classic performances in this beautifully written and composed rendition of Camelot and the knights of the round table. The music will be bouncing around in your head for days...so cleverly done!

What I like most in Camelot is the characters's goodness. Arthur tries hard to solve the eternal problems of feuding, violence and bullying. And the scene in which Lancelot raises the knight he accidently killed with his prayer is so moving. I wish we each had such powers to change things! I think Camelot encourages us to try.

Beautifully acted, viewed and produced film about the love story between Gwenivere, Lancelot and King Arthur. Rememberable performances and music forever.
