  Alert! Fake X460's

Club buyers need to be aware the China knockoff fake clubs have hit the Callaway X460 auctions big time. Got my TKO notice on a club I purchased yesterday and probably since it's a weekend, I was able to block the credit card payment.

Take a look at the Tayor R7 460 reviews to understand how many people are getting duped by this scam. Identities are being stolen and clubs are being sold using hijacked member accounts. Be sure your seller has a history of selling golf clubs and is actively doing so.

If it's a buy-it-now and the price is too cheap, IT'S PROBABLY A RIPOFF.

Just for your info, here's the email I got from the "seller" - tracking number tracks to Shanghai, China (real eBay seller is listed as being in Missouri)

I am very sorry that there is something wrong with my visa .My visa is
stolen ,Now I am trying to reslove this case .But please set your heart at
rest ,I send this item to you ,the tracking number is EA872164955CN.After
two days,You record this website to be able to look up the goods in the
position:

Caveat emptor!!!!

Truly is a great driver, I was a 20 handicapper and have had this club 6 months and believe its extra 20-30 yards in extra length and consistency have enabled my handicap to reduce to 15. Well worth the $'s.

Beware of counterfeit clubs coming from China

Purchased a new Big Bertha 460 (not the X460) from a seller with 100% positive feedback. Like a previous poster, the location said Missouri. (Apparently the seller's site had been hijacked by the counterfeiters.) About an hour after making the purchase, got a "TKO" notice from Ebay informing me to try and get my money back. I just got the club today; it shipped from Shanghai, China and is an obvious fake. The shaft says "Frim" instead of "Firm," the head has no serial number, and the grip is cheap and smells terrible. Talked to legal counsel at Callaway; he told me that in the last 4 days, they have cancelled the listings of 1 million dollars worth of fake Callaway clubs listed on Ebay.

You should never buy golf equipment on Ebay, because there is a very good chance you are buying counterfeit equipment. These people have gotten really good at making these copies, right down to even putting a serial number on the clubs.I bought this club becuse of the price.Too good to be true was definitely in play here.Best advice...get the real thing at a quality golf shop!!!!!

  Fake Callaway Drivers!
Review created: 02/18/08
9 of 9 people found this review helpful.

Just a heads up to share my experiences with the Chinese counterfeiting industry and more specifically, with the Callaway Big Bertha 454 driver.

Last spring, I finally decided to upgrade my equipment and hopefully, my score along with it. I read reviews at golfreview.com for a few days and finally decided on the reasonably priced Big Bertha Titanium 454. Once it arrived, I eagerly took it to the driving range, anticipating longer, straighter drives. I had been playing a set of Wilson Pro Staffs (my first set) and could hit the driver effectively, but much shorter than my friends. Well, long story short, I took the 454 to the range for a week straight and kept hitting a 90 deg. slice. I mean, totally nasty. I kept thinking it was my swing, so I would concentrate harder on my mechanics. Unfortunately, it never improved. As soon as I'd switch back to my old school Wilson, I'd be smacking drives, albeit fairly short.

Now that I have a greater understanding of the amount and variety of counterfeit items readily available, I am convinced I own a fake club. In addition, I went to Golfsmith and hit a 454 in their facility and there was no comparison between my club and theirs. Their 454 had a much more solid feel & impact, and the "ping" sound at impact was different.

If you visit TradeKey.com, you can search for "golf clubs" or even by particular brand. All of the items shown will be made in China, some even advertised as "authentic." TradeKey.com basically connects the "average Joe" to a Chinese supplier of the desired merchandise. By doing so, they supplement the growth of the worldwide counterfeit market and more importantly, the number of fake merchandise on eBay. If anyone can get on TradeKey, buy a Callaway driver for $50, have it in hand within 5 days, and sell it on eBay for $150 (and get away with it), they will start replicating this highly profitable scam more and more. Thousands of eBay sellers are doing just this and most are making lots of money selling knock-off merchandise to unsuspecting buyers.

A recent search showed the following drivers as being counterfeited and in stock:
1) DRIVERS: Callaway - FT-3, FT-5, FT-I Neutral, X460, Big Bertha 460, Big Bertha 454; Cleveland - Hi-Bore XL, Hi-Bore; Nike - Sasquatch 460, SUMO, Sasquatch Sumo2, Sasquatch 5300, 4950; Ping - G10, Rapture, G5; TaylorMade - r7 460 Draw, r7 TP SuperQuad, r7 SuperQuad, Burner; Mizuno - MP425, JPX; Titleist - 905R.

So, in closing, what can you do to prevent yourself from buying a fake club?

1) I only buy golf merchandise on eBay from authorized golf resellers (3ballsgolf comes to mind). It's easy to tell who these sellers are from their listing format, inventory, and feedback.

2) Familiarize yourself with the club specs before buying it. Golfreview.com is an outstanding resource.

3) Make sure the seller shows actual photos and many of them. Stay away from listings that only feature a stock photo.

4) Take your club to the driving range. Hit a basket or two, and then visit your local Golfsmith to compare the feel, impact, and weight of yours vs. theirs.

5) To absolutely confirm it's an authentic club, send it to the manufacturer for "regripping" or some minor repair. I know Callaway will clean/regrip their clubs for free & will also analyze the club.

There are great deals on eBay, but hundreds more fake clubs than people realize. When buying, keep in mind how easy it is for a seller to obtain fake clubs, and keep your guard up! Ask questions!

I purchased a new Callaway driver via the Buy it Now method. My clubs were stolen and I did not have time to bid on an auction. When I received the driver, it was new as advertised but it had a flaw in the finish on the shaft.

i contacted the seller and he assured me that he would stand behind his sale. The seller did just that, I sent him the club and a few days later I received a new one straight from Callaway.

This is how ebay should work!

This auction was pulled by ebay, but my PayPal account was still debited and the club I received was a complete forgery.

I am still fighting with PayPal about it, but I am going to use my banks fraud division to get my money back.

After buying a "counterfeit" Taylormade R7 460 Draw on ebay I decided to buy a Callaway X460 from a reputable seller on ebay. Absolutely love the club. I had been hitting a Taylormade R5 Dual Draw club for the past year or so but find that I am now 20 - 30 yards longer with the X460 and am finding more fairways. Try it, you'll like it!

I strongly recommend not to buy from this person, the clubs are made in China and are fake.

  Callaway X460 is a hit
Review created: 02/13/08

Have played 1 round with the Callaway X460 and it was a driving revelation. Had been playing with a Taylor Burner Bubble for over 10 years with pretty good results. Hit a fade every once in a while but most drives had good distance. Tried a few 460 drivers when playing with friends and the clubs seemed to produce more distance and more reliability. So I pulled the trigger and got a nearly new X460. The club is very attractive with the flat black head, has a great grip and nice, even weighting. At 9 degrees with a 2 degree offset it produces a relatively low trajectory with limited spin. When I lined up on the 1st tee I aimed a bit left, as I usually do, to counter my sometimes fade. Whack, the ball went straight and long and way left in the rough. Next tee I lined up a little less left and again it went right where I aimed, still in the left rough. I got the hint and started lining up exactly where I wanted the ball to land and darn if it didn't go straight and true. After getting to know the club better and better throughout the round and relaxing I started really putting the ball out there, in the 270-yard range on soggy, no- or limited roll fairways. This is an instance where new technology (BIG club head, limited spin face, stiff shaft, etc.) really does produce the promised results. The only thing that detracts is the cover, which is too unwieldy to take off and put back on after every drive. And I'm a walker who has plenty of time between shots to complete the task, it's just too much of a pain in the butt. But that has little to do with the clubs' performance, which is everything one could ask for.

I bought the Callaway X460 driver because it is one of the most forgiving clubs on the market. I'm 65 years old with a bad back. With the large head and bigger sweet spot, It's easy for me to get more shot's in the fairway. I can't think of anything I don't like about this club. Callaway quality speaks for it's self.

Whats not to like? This club helped my drive by about 20 yards. I looks great in my bag and feels great. The only think is it does not have that classic Callaway CLICK but more of a CRASH. Its sounds like a wine bottle being broke, nevertheless I like it, and YES I would recommend it.

I've had numerous drivers throughout the years, from Ping, Cobra, Taylormade, Nicklaus. This driver is simply one of the best that Ive hit!! Its long and straight. Mishits have very good results too!! I have the stiff shaft and just seems perfect for me and my swing speed. I have no dislikes with this driver. I bought this driver because my Cobra was stolen and I would definately buy another one of these if this ends up missing. If youre looking for a great driver, check out the Callaway line!!

This item was described to have normal use wear and to be 7 of 10 in quality. It actually had significant wear with scarring on the top surface which required cosmetic repair upon receipt. Delivery was quick. A stock photo was use to advertise the item. It and the discription less than adequately described the actual condition.

Designed to replace the 454cc driver and provide an alternative to the FT-3. Callaway did improve performance with this driver for the medium - high handicap player. The only fault I find is painted heads chip easy with off center hits. Protect your expensive investment - always use a headcover.

this driver, first of all, cost less than half what a new one would have. since my game is bad, that was important. my old driver was a great big bertha, which i couldn't hit past my shadow. i can hit this club about 240 or so when i connect. otherwise, i still get 200-220. plus, its a good looking driver and head cover.
