Callaway has put together the whole package in a fairway wood. This club feels like a driver but swings like a 3 wood. In combination with a Callaway ball, expect good things from this bundle of power. Sweet spot is not as big as driver, but of course it's a 3 wood. Therefore fades and draws come easier with small miss hits, not as forgiving. But the selling point will be ball trajectory combined with distance. Happy swinging with this club.

After many years of great shots I thought it should be time to retire my Callaway War-Bird 4 wood. Easily the oldest club in my well travelled golf bag, this was not the easiest thing to do! "Old reliable" was still doing the job! Only after doing a lot of homework, I decided on the Callaway X-Tour 15 degree 3 wood. Needless to say, I am very happy with my decision. while I really like the clean lines and traditional look of the club, it's the way it performs that is most important to me. I have found it very easy to hit and to control. Both in the fairway and off the tee where accuracy is critical, I have found my new X-Tour to be everything as advertised. So much so, in fact , that I have ordered the X-Tour 9.5 Degree Driver! Based on my experience, I would highly recommend the X-Tour Fairway metals to serious golfers who regularly score in the mid to low 80's or better.

  Callaway X 3 Wood

Absolutely great club. Looooonger than any 3 wood I've owned -- and I've owned plenty. Almost as long as my Taylor Made R7 driver. Stock Fujikura shaft in a stiff is a "tour stiff" -- a stiff plus. Just right for me. Draw bias, I think. Nice blue and black colors, too. Sharp headcover. Serious looking. Callaway, which has always made the best fairway metal woods, INHO, has a big winner here. I've finally found a wood that replaces my classic S2H2 smallhead, which itself was awesome. A shame it's been dethroned. I won't be putting the X up for sale on eBay anytime soon.

  Callaway x tour 3 wood
Review created: 07/04/07

I've always loved callaway fairway woods, but this one is the best so far. Lets face it they ALL work if you hit them right, but finding one with the right combination of feel, sound, and forgiveness is a little more difficult to do. This club just feels solid with that classic Callaway sound. Paired up with the Fujikura Tour Platform shaft this is one club you wont be disappointed with. One word of caution with the X Tour, the head size is small by todays standards. If you want something around todays standard go with the plain X version or if you want oversize go with the X Hot.

  X Tour 15 degree 3 wood

This is the best 3 wood I've ever owned hands down. Love the small head, square face (not closed) and weight. I can really feel the head when I swing. Never have I had a fairway wood that I felt as comfortable with off the tee, from a tight lie in the fairway, or from the rough. It flat out goes.

One note. While I'm a low handicapper (2), I let a couple of mid handicap guys I know take a look at it on the range when I noticed they were trying out the "Hot" version of the X fairway wood which has a considerably bigger head (and longer shaft) then my "Tour" version. They didn't seem to care much for the small head. To each their own. A big head off a tee is ok, off a tight lie though, no thanks.

Callaway X-Tour 3 Wood Stiff Shaft
Review created: 08/08/06

2 of 2 people found this review helpful.

I bought the Callway X Tour club after a good friend told me his X Tour 3 wood had added more yardage over his old 3 wood than any club he'd ever owned. He said it was an impressive club for him, so I tried it. The problem is that the Fujikura Tour Platform shaft (stiff flex) was very stiff indeed. I couldn't feel the head at the end of the club because the shaft was so stiff. I don't swing slow, but less than 100 mph. So I sold the thing (on Ebay at a small loss) because I couldn't hit it. I went back to my trusty old WarBird 3 wood with a generic "firm" shaft. My search for more yardage continues.
The other thing about the Callaway X Tour 3 wood is that the head seems rather small. When you set it behind the ball, it's not that inspiring because of its diminutive stature. If you're accustomed to seeing a fairly large head behind the ball with your 3 wood, caveat emptor.
That said, I wouldn't mind trying a "regular" flex X-Tour club to see if I could hit it better. The yardage seeking is ad infinitum.

Callaway X-Tour 15* Fairway Wood Golf Club

I recently purchased one of these on E-Bay. This club is seriously long! You can easily shape your shots with this club. The smaller head gives you the confidence of knowing that you can turn it left or turn it right. The club is also easy to hit from thick rough. From a good lie in the fairway expect to carry the ball 230-250 yards! Thats right; 230-250 yards! The ball jumps off the face of this puppy like a rocket. This is by far the easiest to hit and longest fairway club ever! Put one in your bag and be prepared to be amazed!

THIS IS THE EASIEST TO HIT STRONG 3 WOOD THAT CALLAWAY HAS MADE RECENTLY. IT DOES NOT HAVE THE FADE CHARASTICS LIKE PREVIOUS STRONG 3 WOODS. IT IS A VERY SOLID LONG HITTING WOOD PROBALLY THE BEST ON THE MARKET TODAY.

  X-tour replaces my old S2H2
Review created: 02/17/07
1 of 1 people found this review helpful.

I recently bought a used X Tour 3 wood with Fujikura Platform 26.3 stiff shaft, it replaced an older S2H2 I broke last year. I shoot in the low to mid 80's, an occasional 90 when I don't play much. Since my main use is as a fairway wood, I love the low profile, even more so than the regular X woods. My old S2H2 produced a straight shot with an occasional fade, but I hit this club much straighter. I was inconsistent drawing the old Callaway but the X Tour is much more consistent. I was a diehard Grafalloy fan but rapidly grew to like the Fujikura, however the shaft feels more like a X-stiff than stiff. I hit the X-Tour about the same distance as my old 3, 225 to 235+ yards off the tee and slightly less off the fairway.
Since I love my Ping G2 driver, I assumed I was going to like and get the newer Rapture 3/5 wood, buying into the titanium hype- until I picked one up. The clubhead was much larger, which I prefer the smaller profile. I also tried swinging a few other low profile clubs like the Nike and Adams, but in the end the Callaway won out. I also bought a X 5 wood (not X-Tour), after playing both I now wish I would have bought it in the Tour model- smaller face and better shaft. As a matter of fact, the 3 X-Tour is easier to hit than the X-5 wood. All in all, a nice club with rock-solid Callaway quality.

I bought it because I had done my research and knew that's the best club fitted for my type game. It's a tour club so it has a straight face, ( not open or closed) I also knew what shaft fits my swing speed and found the shaft I needed,, I got a good price and bought the club!

These are very solid clubs. You can get a great bang for your buck with them. Good feel at impact, the F360 stiff shaft is good for a stronger player.

Best 3 Wood Callaway Ever Made
Review created: 07/07/09
by:

Hey Guys,

I'm a 1 handicap, been playing for awhile. Graduate of the San Diego Golf Academy. I have hit just about every 3 wood on the market and I can honestly say...This is the best 3 wood Callaway has ever made. Stock Fujikura Shaft is Perfect for this head. Easy to hit off the deck, and workable from the tee. It has a nice ping sound when hit, but is not too loud. Very Very Forgiving. Easy Alignment aid on the topline.

Try one..For the price these are going for, you won't be dissapointed

My X-Tour 460 Fairway Wood Callaway was purchased because of the shaft and club being the same as my Callaway driver. The face had some imperfections but for $60.00 I got nothing to complain about. The Aldila NV65 Graphite shaft was the key!! My handicap went to a 4 last year primarily do to straight and long drives. The last five rounds not one was over 73. The driver was purchased also on e-bay.

This club is an excellent "old" style metal wood - meaning that it is not a jumbo sized fairway wood like most of the clubs being offered today. I find it easier to hit from tight lies than the over sized clubs and, because I draw the ball. the Tour head, which is not draw biased, is a good fit for my swing.

A great club for the low handicap golfer who wants to control ball flight.
The small low profile head would make this a bad club for less accomplished golfers.

  CALLAWAY X = XCELLENT
Review created: 04/28/08

THE X SERIES FROM CALLAWAY DELIVER AS PROMISED. SOLID PERFORMANCE WITH A VERY SMOOTH DEFINED LOOK. THE TOUR MODEL HAS BEEN REDUCED IN SIZE BUT DELIVERS AS MUCH DISTANCE, CONTROL AND GIVES THAT LOOK OF CONFIDENCE THAT THE BETTER PLAYERS LOOK FOR, SLIGHTLY OPEN FACE FOR A GREAT SET-UP. VERY WORKABLE IN MY SET.

  Excellent Club
Review created: 03/31/08

This is a very easy club to hit with favorable and forgiving results. Off the tee, I was approaching 240 yards with the bounce. On the ground, plenty of loft and distance to shorten the longest fairway. The shaft reacts just as, if not better than advertised. A solid report upon address envokes confidence, almost makes me wonder why I even drag around my R7 at all!

  Callaway X-Tour Fairway Wood
Review created: 03/22/08

Having hit most Cleveland's, TaylorMades, Ping's, Titleists and Callaway's that have been built since 1998, I'd hnoestly have to rate the 'X', 'X Tour' and 'X Hot' in the top 10 percent of all of them. They definately 'feel' and deliver like Callaway's and won't easily be confused with any other brands. The clubs have smaller, lower profile heads and unique soles with hot faces. So if you like larger headed fairway woods, think Ping G's or TM Titanium's (r7, r5, 580, etc.). Additionally, the 'X's' feel lighter than most of their competitors which is either good or bad, depending on your personal preferences. The factory Fujikura shafts really deliver though and come with a variety of kick points to deliver the perfect ball flight for most swing characteristics. The only downside to these clubs is that the painted crown's tend begin to show their wear unless you keep the headcovers one them and don't hit many popups.
