About the Manufacturer
The story of Callaway Golf begins with the company’s founder and namesake Ely Callaway, a passionate businessman and well known figure in the game of Golf. The company got its start when Mr. Callaway bought a small wedge and putter company called “Hickory Stick USA”, which later became “Callaway Hickory Stick USA” and eventually “Callaway Golf”. From the beginning the company was committed to producing quality product for golfers of all skill levels. Mr. Callaway called it “Demonstrably Superior and Pleasingly Different” (DPSD) golf clubs. Though the company has grown exponentially since it’s modest start in 1982 (when Mr.Callaway would deliver product himself from the back of his Cadillac) the commitment to innovation and quality remains. Now a publicly traded company, Callaway is one of the most visible names in golf with a product line that encompasses the full spectrum of equipment and accessories including drivers, irons, wedges, putters and balls. Callaway golf also owns Top-Flite Golf Company, Odyssey Putters, Ben Hogan and Strata Brands.

    I am a 65 year old golfer who was looking to move from Callaway X-14's with offset to the X-16 or X-18 pro models which have no offset. I find that I hit these X-16 clubs dead straight, however I believe I need to lengthen the shafts by 1 inch and regrip with midsize grips since I am 6 feet 4 inches tall.
    I have hit socalled clones of the X-16 and found them to be inferior to the real Callaway club. My reason for wanting to go with the professional model with no offset was because I had purchased pro model X-14 approach, sand and lob wedges and really liked them. I'm not sure exactly what offset is designed to do and since I have had such good success with non offset clubs I choose to stay with them. I have played golf for about 40 years, hit the ball extremely long for a senior citizen and still have a good short game considering I only play once per week.

    The x-16's I purchased have steel shafts, regular flex and 2 degrees flat. I was used to the graphite shafts in my x-12 clubs and the steel is heavier and will arc your swing more than the graphite. You won't feel the ball on the clubs face like you do with graphite, but the fall flight is a little truer than the graphite. I haven't played them to score yet, but I really like the feel of the swing. If you are interested in upgrading from an x-12 or similar iron I would definately recommend these clubs. You can buy these irons at a fraction of the price for new x-18 or x-20 irons and they swing just as good!
